Actress and former Soul Train dancer, Rosie Perez, has always admitted that she had serious anger issues back in the day. She recalled one heated incident when things got way out of hand on the set of Soul Train. One such situation apparently got ugly between Rosie and her then-boss, the late, great Don Cornelius…and let’s just say that neither Don, nor Rosie didn’t play that!

In her book, Handbook For an Unpredictable Life, Rosie Perez told the story of how she went through a LOT of torment as a child and was a ward of the state of New York by the age of 3. Her experiences of physical abuse at the hands of her Mother, the nuns at the Catholic children’s home she was sent to, and having to fend for herself, is what lead her to make the decision to do what she did to respond the way that she did when Don Cornelius made her angry. She says in hindsight, she thinks she overreacted, and this is what she said happened in a prior interview with Soul Train:

Interviewer: You didn’t just fight kids at school. You fought back against the nuns. Then you got into a fight with Don Cornelius when you were on “Soul Train.” Can you tell us that story?

Rosie Perez: That was a clue that I needed help. I thought, “I’m so together. I’m in college. I’m going for my major in biochemistry. I’m fantastic,” you know? “I’m on ‘Soul Train.'” And if you just pressed the wrong button, it was, like, just a nuclear explosion would occur in me.

That’s what happened with Don Cornelius. He touched me, and pulled me, and yanked me inappropriately. I freaked out, and I just started swinging, and started grabbing things. The first thing I grabbed was a two-piece Kentucky Fried Chicken. It was a low point. I was beyond embarrassed. I was still walking out with this pathetic bravado like, “So? I don’t care. I don’t care.” By the time I get in the car, I start crying. I felt like an idiot.

Interviewer: You threw a chicken wing at Don Cornelius’ forehead?

Yes. It’s embarrassing, and it was so wrong. I thank goodness that we were able to make up before his passing. But that’s what I mean it’s like, “Am I really enjoying my life? If I am this person holding on to this anger from the past, am I really enjoying my life?” No.

Geesh…Rosie was no joke back then! I guess Don didn’t have time for a feisty 5’1″ woman hurling chicken wings at his forehead every time she got mad about something.

Seriously though, if a man puts his hands on a woman inappropriately, by all means she has every right to react however she sees fit. We don’t condone anyone “pulling, touching, or yanking” anyone, but I think what Rosie is saying is that the extent of what Don Cornelius’ action was, was not as extreme as what she processed it as in that particular moment. So, it seems like that’s probably why she’s now saying her reaction to him was wrong.

Nevertheless, the good news is that Rosie says her anger issues are under control now. Like we mentioned earlier, her anger management issues come from a deep place of childhood pain and abuse from school nuns, according to her book. So to her credit, she didn’t just come here that way…but she had to do a lot of inner soul searching and healing to overcome her past struggles. Props to her for doing the work.

Russell Simmons’ and Kimora Lee Simmons’ daughter, Aoki Simmons, has been the talk of these social media streets ever since photos recently surfaced of her kissing her reportedly 65-year-old millionaire boyfriend as they vacationed together. And now, Russell has finally shared his thoughts on Aoki’s reported relationship.

As we recently reported, Russells’ and Kimoras’ daughter, Aoki, is allegedly dating a 65-year-old millionaire named Vittorio Assaf. The news sent shockwaves through social media, with many expressing concern and disapproval over the significant age difference between the couple.

However, Russell is unfazed by the controversy…or maybe he’s just pretending to be down with the thought of his daughter linking up with a 65-year-old dude. Anywho, in an interview with TMZ, the Def Jam co-founder expressed his unconditional love and support for his daughter’s choices. He emphasized that he respects her autonomy to make her own decisions, even if they might be unconventional:

“I’m not gonna kick and scream about her choices. … All I can do is offer my advice and unconditional love,” said Russell Simmons.

Russell revealed that he had prior knowledge of the relationship before it became public, because Aoki gave him the heads up that the news was about to spread across social media. Despite the backlash and criticism from fans, Russell remains steadfast in his role as a supportive father, offering advice and understanding to his daughter.

Aoki, for her part, seems to be avoiding the noise and negativity surrounding her relationship. She has addressed the backlash through her Instagram Lives, making it clear that she is unbothered by the public’s opinion.

As previously reported, Aoki seemed pretty much unbothered by the news of her alleged older boo-thang surfacing. Soon after the kissing photos of her and Vittorio surfaced, she posted a photo of herself to her Instagram Story, with a caption that read, “Errr well now I know why folks were calling me.”

What do y’all think, I Love Old School Music fam’? Is Russell Simmons really cool with his daughter dating a dude who is only one year younger than he? Or is Russell just frontin’ for the public? 🤷🏾‍♂️

LaTocha, one-fourth of the legendary R&B group Xscape, has decided to take legal action against popular TV producer, Mona Scott-Young, and Live Nation. The reason? LaTocha alleges that her group members, along with Mona Scott-Young’s Monami Entertainment Group and Live Nation, are infringing upon her rights as one-half of the trademark owner of the Xscape brand.

It all started when Mona announced a nationwide tour featuring Xscape, excluding LaTocha Scott, who was left out. According to a report from Straight From The A, LaTocha, via her attorney Leron E. Rogers, claims that Live Nation and Monami Entertainment Group have been publicly advertising the Xscape brand for the tour without her approval or discussion of financial terms.

The letter sent by LaTocha’s attorney claims that she was blindsided by the news of Xscape signing a contract for a tour without her consent. It also implicates Mona Scott-Young, suggesting that she intentionally chose to interfere with LaTocha’s rights, given her past involvement as Xscape’s management. LaTocha feels that this oversight was deliberate and not accidental.

LaTocha’s attorney has demanded that Mona Scott-Young/Monami Entertainment and Live Nation contact them within five days to secure the proper licensing for the use of the Xscape trademark. LaTocha and her sister, Tameka Scott, secured the trademark during a period when Kandi wasn’t planning on rejoining the group. Throughout this drama, LaTocha has been maintaining that her intention was never to permanently leave Xscape, but rather to take a break and pursue other interests.

Not stopping at Mona Scott-Young and Monami Entertainment, LaTocha has also sent a similar letter to Live Nation regarding the use of the Xscape trademark at the Lovers & Friends festival in Las Vegas.

This lawsuit raises questions about group dynamics and the complexities of managing artistic collaborations. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and if any resolution can be reached between LaTocha Scott, Mona Scott Young, and Live Nation…and apparently, her group members as well.

As months of us are aware, LaTocha has been beefin’ with her group members on-and-off for years now, with many Xscape fans oftentimes siding with Kandi, Tiny, and Tameka. This was evident in the major backlash LaTocha received following various episodes of their “Xscape” Still Kickin’ It” reality series. There were claims of backstabbing, financial theft, managerial problems and more…with LaTocha and her husband, Rocky Bivens (pictured above with LaTocha), being finger-pointed -by Kandi, Tiny, and Tameka- as the cause of said drama amongst the group. So uh…yeah, this latest battle ain’t surprising…not one bit.

At any rate, we hope that a fair resolution can be reached, allowing Xscape to continue making music and entertaining their fans.

Aoki Lee Simmons, the 21-year-old daughter of Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, has recently been rumored to be dating a much older dude. According to reports as well as recent photos (below), Aoki was spotted kissing Vittorio Assaf, a 65-year-old restaurateur, during a recent getaway to St. Barts.

To put their 44-year-age difference further into perspective…Aoki’s moms, Kimora, is 48; and her pops, Russell, is 66…just one year older than her alleged new man.

Photos published by Page Six show Aoki and Vittorio sharing a steamy kiss on the beach. Aoki, dressed in a bikini, seemed to be having a good ol’ time time with the shirtless 65-year-old businessman. The pictures also captured their playful moments in the ocean, showcasing the apparent familiarity between the young model and the seasoned restaurateur.

Sources have revealed, to People, that Aoki and Vittorio are reportedly officially dating after meeting on the Caribbean island.

It’s unclear if Kimora and Russell agree with their youngest daughter’s reported choice in the dating department at the moment. But Aoki seems pretty much unbothered by the news of her alleged older boo-thang surfacing. Soon after the kissing photos of her and Vittorio surfaced, Aoki posted a photo of herself to her Instagram Story, with a caption that read, “Errr well now I know why folks were calling me.”

This isn’t the first time Aoki has made headlines. In 2023 she was in the spotlight for her public dispute with her pops. However, in a more recent interview, Aoki shared that she is doing great and was excited for the holidays with her family.

As for her future plans, Aoki had previously expressed her intention to attend law school in 2023. It seems like she’s making her own path and following her own dreams, regardless of the attention surrounding her personal life.

She Just Turned 66!

On March 21, 2024, Sabrina Le Beauf celebrated her 66th orbit around the sun and the New Orleans, La. native is still just as beautiful as ever.

Here’s one thing that most people didn’t know back in the day: Although Phylicia Rashad played Sabrina’s mother on the show, there’s only a 10-year age difference between them. Rashad is 75 years young, but will be 76 in June 2024. Ain’t that something?

“Sondra’s” Current Career Is Way Different From Acting

Shortly after the “Cosby Show” ended in 1992, Sabrina decided to follow her other life’s passion, interior design. She soon entered into an interior design program at UCLA and her interior design business has been on and poppin’ ever since. She was almost instantly able to garner up business from well-off clients, with budgets of hundreds of thousand of dollars and up.

In a prior interview with People Magazine, Sabrina admitted that interior design is just as fulfilling to her as acting:

Via People- “Whatever part of the brain and the heart that acting feeds in me, design does the same thing,” [Sabrina Le Beauf] says. “You walk into an empty home and little by little you put it together and it comes to life, just the way you build a character. Once it’s there and people really like it, it’s the same as the applause you get as an actor.”

Even though Sabrina Le Beauf is still enjoying her interior design business, she hasn’t completely closed the curtain on acting. Throughout the years, he’s repeatedly performed in theatrical stage plays put on by the Shakespeare Theatre Company of Washington, D.C..

Unbeknownst to many devoted “Cosby Show” fans, the late Whitney Houston was initially supposed to get the role of “Sondra.” However, Sabrina Le Beauf ultimately landed the part. In hindsight, that was a good move because we may not have ever truly gotten to witness the full potential of the R&B/pop icon, had she committed to the show for so long.

Angela Basset Was Her Classmate

Who knew legendary actress, Angela Bassett, and Sabrina Le Beauf had history? Turns out, they were college classmates and Sabrina revealed that she didn’t feel like she fit in in Hollywood, until attending those same courses Angela attended:

As far as we know, Sabrina Le Beauf is single today, but at one time, she was married to Michael Reynolds, a then successful Washington, D.C. radio show producer. They married in just 6 seeks after meeting each other, when she was booked on his show for an interview in 1987. Unfortunately, they divorced in 1996:

Living The Vegan Life

One of the reasons Sabrina’s lookin’ so good at 66 is partly because she’s a vegan. She confirmed this fun fact recently, and sticks to a healthy, clean eating diet.

Sabrina also says she’s grateful to have been a part of the “Cosby Show” because it helped bring positive images of Black people to the mainstream. On a side note, as for the allegations surrounding her former TV dad, Bill Cosby, Sabrina has pretty much remained radio silent on that front. I guess she was like, ‘My name’s Bennett and I ain’t in it,’ so to speak. Anywho, it’s great seeing Sabrina out here livin’ her best life to the fullest.

The FBI’s investigation into Diddy seems to be heating up with the latest reports of who’s supposedly talking to the Feds regarding the probe. Recent reports reveal that Cassie has reportedly been cooperating with federal investigators in the ongoing investigation involving Diddy.

According to TMZ, sources with direct knowledge of the matter say Cassie is among the witnesses that the authorities have been in contact with regarding the Diddy investigation. It is believed that Cassie has been working closely with investigators for several weeks, even before law enforcement raided Diddy’s residences.

The timing of Cassie’s cooperation suggests that she may have played a significant role in establishing probable cause for the search warrants that were executed. Other women who have filed lawsuits against Diddy are also said to have been in contact with federal investigators.

Although the details of Cassie’s conversations with the authorities remain undisclosed, it is likely that her statements align with the allegations she made in her lawsuit against Diddy. In the lawsuit, she accused him of various acts, including forcing her to engage in sexual activities with multiple male prostitutes, rape, physical abuse, and providing her with drugs and alcohol throughout their relationship. She also alleged that Diddy was involved in sex trafficking. Diddy denied these claims but settled the lawsuit shortly after it was filed.

For the record, Diddy has referred to the investigation and the subsequent raids as a “witch hunt.” As of now, he has not been arrested or charged with any crimes.

The involvement of Cassie and other women who have come forward adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation. Their firsthand accounts and cooperation with federal authorities may contribute to building a stronger case against Diddy.

It remains unclear at this point which other women have been cooperating with the authorities. Additionally, it is unknown whether Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a former Bad Boy Records producer, has been interviewed as part of the investigation.

As the Diddy-investigation unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Cassie’s alleged cooperation and the reported testimonies of other women impact the case.

The mother of Justin Combs, one of Diddy’s sons, is speaking out and sharing shocking surveillance footage from a recent raid on Diddy’s mansion. Misa Hylton is furious and believes the federal agents involved in the raid acted in an aggressive and excessive manner.

In the video footage shared by Misa Hylton (scroll down for video), Homeland Security agents can be seen storming into Diddy’s Holmby Hills mansion with guns drawn and military-style vehicles in tow. The scene is chaotic and intense, with squadrons of agents swarming the premises and intercepting Justin and Christian “King” Combs in the hallway.

Hylton expresses her anger and disbelief at the show of force, considering it excessive and unnecessary. She questions the need for laser beam gun sights pointed at her sons’ chests and high-powered assault rifles pointed at the back of their heads while they were handcuffed. Hylton emphasizes that her sons, like many other unarmed Black men, could have potentially lost their lives in this ordeal.

“The overzealous and overtly militarized force used against my son and his brother Christian — who I consider a second son — is deplorable,” Hylton writes. She goes on to stress that the agents knew Diddy wasn’t present in the home during the raid.

The released footage also shows some of the agents going through and turning off surveillance cameras, confirming previous reports about the seizure of security footage during the raid. Despite this, Diddy’s team was able to recover some of the data.

Hylton ends her statement by expressing her determination to seek justice for her sons, stating that they have legal representation and are exploring their options.

The allegations against Diddy, including sex trafficking claims, are currently being investigated. The music mogul has denied all the accusations and called the investigation a witch hunt. Diddy has not yet been arrested or charged.

The raid on Diddy’s mansion has raised concerns about excessive use of force by law enforcement, particularly in cases involving Black and Brown individuals. Hylton’s decision to release the footage sheds light on the reality many face. Diddy’s sons were not the source of the investigation– their father is. So it’s understandable why many are left perplexed and wondering why King and Justin Combs were brought outside of the home i handcuffs for the public witness.

LeVar Burton, known for his role in the groundbreaking series “Roots,” as well as for his “Reading Rainbow” series, recently paid a heartfelt tribute to his co-star, the legendary late actor, Louis Gossett Jr. In a social media post, Burton shared an untold story about their bond and the impact Gossett had on his career.

Reflecting on his first professional audition, which happened to be “Roots,” Burton recalled the grueling, yet unforgettable weeks of location work in Savannah, GA. After the production relocated to Los Angeles, Burton had the chance to meet Gossett for the very first time. The veteran actor extended an invitation to dinner at his beach house, and what followed was an evening of profound connection and camaraderie:
“ROOTS was my first job in the business. It was in fact my first professional audition. When the production moved back to Los Angeles after 7 grueling, glorious, unforgettable weeks location work in Savannah GA, I met Lou for the very first time. He invited me to dinner at his beach house, to spend the night and just hang out, “ LeVar revealed.

As the crashing waves provided a melodic backdrop, Burton and Gossett spent hours talking and sharing their life stories. The experience forged a deep bond between them, transcending their roles as Kunta and Fiddler on screen. Burton recounts Gossett’s kindness and conscious effort to make a 19-year-old aspiring actor feel welcome—the mark of a true gentleman:

“We talked for hours, drinking wine, sharing our life stories with the crashing waves in Malibu as background music. By the time we got to set the next day the bond between Kunta and Fiddler was forever forged. He was a giant and a gentle man. Back in the day, Chaka Khan had one shocking incident that was definitely kept under wraps, but she dodged this bullet by the skin of her teeth! She has admitted to being involved in a very hostile situation with her then husband, Richard Holland. It all went down while Chaka was 8 months pregnant with their son, Damien, and she ended up doing the unthinkable.

What Happened

Typically when we think of domestic disputes, we usually think of the man being the aggressor, Chaka said this particular incident was provoked by her. In her 2003 memoir, “Through The Fire,” Chaka had previously detailed the dangerous incident, but didn’t disclose who the man was. It wasn’t until 2012 that she revealed it was her ex-husband, Richard, whom she’d once fired multiple shots at during a very hostile argument.

She stated that one night in 1976, she called Holland to let him know she was on her way home had forgotten her house keys, therefore, requesting him to leave the keys in their secret hiding spot. She says that when she finally returned home, the keys were not there, so she had to break a window to get in. This pissed her off and once Richard arrived later that evening, Chaka explained what happened:

Via Wenn: [Chaka] tells National Enquirer, “I went for the shotgun, loaded it, pulled the trigger. I missed him because as soon as he saw the gun, he high-tailed it into the office, slammed the door, and turned out the lights.” Khan…called police for help, but lied to authorities and blamed the shooting incident on an intruder. She continues, “When I came to my senses, as blood trickled from the wound above my eye, I wanted to damn myself to hell that Milini (her then-four-year-old daughter) had witnessed something like this. Not that it was the first fight she ever saw, but it was definitely the worst. I called the cops and made like there was an intruder in the house.”

Apparently when the cops showed up to Chaka’s home, they didn’t buy her story, because they hauled her husband off to jail instead. Following the fiasco, Chaka had a chance to settle down and soon realized what the depth of her actions:

“So there I was, an almost felon, the mother of a five-year old, with another baby on the way, a screwed up marriage and bills on top of bills. And there were thousands of women out there envying Chaka Khan, thinking if only they were me.”

Needless to say, Chaka’s trigger happy moment ended her marriage to Richard Holland, the man she wrote her hit song, “Sweet Thing,” for.

Lawd ha’mercy, Chaka almost went to the slammer for this one! Had Chaka landed one of those bullets into her then-husband (thankfully she didn’t), soul music as we know it, would have been totally different, because Chaka would not have been able to build the long lasting legacy she’s built now. Split-second decisions are vital- they can be our best friends, or our own worst enemies if we’re not thinking logically. We’re glad that Chaka had a bad aim that day and hopefully the effects of her daughter, Indira, experiencing such a volatile event, didn’t mentally or psychologically scar her for life.

Al B. Sure! has hinted at a connection between his past coma and music mogul Diddy. Speaking at the Equal Justice Now Awards in L.A. on March 29, 2024, Al B. addressed the crowd and dropped a cryptic reference to the ongoing Diddy situation. It seems that Al is working on a filmed project that will document his life story, including shedding light on how he ended up in a coma in 2022.

Al was promoting his new healthcare initiative, Healthcare Equity in Transplantation Coalition, alongside attorney, Ben Crump, at the event. That’s when Al B. discussed the health scare he’d experienced two years ago, which left him incapacitated for three months, with no official cause ever offered. Now, he suggests that there might be a link to Diddy, although he doesn’t explicitly state what it could be. Al B told the audience:

“We’re going to be producing the Al B Sure life story. So hold on to your britches and you’ll really understand how I ended up in a coma. You’re really gonna need to call Homeland Security.”

Obviously, Al B was referring to Homeland Security’s recent raids on Diddy’s L.A. and Miami homes when he referenced the agency during his speech.

In a follow-up interview, Al remained tight-lipped about the specifics, but emphasized that his upcoming project would shed light on the matter.

For the record, this isn’t the “Nite and Day” crooner’s first time cryptically making major allegations against Diddy. For the past few years, dude has thrown shade Diddy’s way several times.

Their history goes back way to Uptown Records in the ’80s when Al B was a producer and singer on the label, and Diddy worked for Andre Harrell developing various new artists at that time. What seems to have really kicked Al B.’s disdain for Diddy into overdrive was apparent tension between them, as a result of Diddy having raised Al B.’s biological son, Quincy, as his own. Diddy seems to still maintain a father-son type of relationship with Quincy to this day.

Beyond the surprising coma revelation, Al B. Sure! also addressed the status of his relationship with his son, Quincy Combs. Over the years, the father and son have had an on-again-off-again estranged relationship dating back to the ’90s.

Although Quincy eventually reconnected with Al B in his adult years, many of Al B’s fans were confused about why he’d taken to social media to reach out to his son, publicly letting Quincy know that he can always “come home,” instead of contacting Quincy privately to tell him that. But now, Al has clarified that he recently asked Quincy to “come home” amidst all the drama in Diddy’s life, expressing that his door is always open and that he loves his son unconditionally.

Furthermore, Al B. Sure! insists that Diddy’s children should not suffer as collateral damage in the ongoing situation. While he refrains from commenting on Diddy’s endeavors directly, Al expresses his relief that Quincy wasn’t present during the recent raids at Diddy’s Los Angeles home, even though Diddy’s other children, Justin and King, were detained during the incident.

Al B. acknowledges that Quincy is a grown man who will make his own decisions, but he keeps the door open, hoping Quincy will eventually choose a different path away from Diddy’s side.
