Janet Jackson Refuses To Perform For HBO At The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

It should have been one of the best nights of her musical career.

But as Janet Jackson was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Hall of Fame, a huge dilemma hung over head. Variety reports that Jackson chose not to perform on the stage because she did not wish to appear further on HBO.

The network which recently aired a controversial documentary that painted her legendary brother, Michael Jackson, as a pedophile. The Rock Hall induction ceremony is usually taped and broadcasted on HBO; this year’s induction airs on April 27. Typically every performer who is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performs on stage.

She Did Not Talk To The Press

Last month, HBO aired Leaving Neverland. Child actor James Safechuck and choreographer Wade Robson accused Janet’s brother Michael of molesting them.

The Jackson family strongly denounced HBO for airing the documentary in a joint statement.

In the statement, they called the accusers liars and maintained that Michael was an innocent man. 

Janet Jackson has not released her own individual statement or commented on the allegations. Following her induction, the “Rhythm Nation” singer did not stop to talk to the press. 

She Thanked Her Baby Son

The pop icon, 52, was introduced on stage by by R&B singer Janelle Monae as the “legendary queen of Black Girl Magic.”

Jackson then gave a passionate speech as she accepted her honor – thanking her son Eissa Al Mana for showing her what “unconditional love” meant.

Addressing the crowd at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Jackson said, “(Eissa) wakes me up every single morning singing his own little melodies. He’s only two, you guys. I want you to know that you are my heart, you are my life, and you have shown me the real meaning of unconditional love.”

Jackson then thanked her fans, producers and choreographers including Paula Abdul.
