If you’re from the Old School era, you probably remember actress, Lynne Moody. She was in a lil’ bit of everything back in the day, including “Roots,” “That’s My Mama,” “Knots Landing,” “All In The Family,” “Soap,” and several other movies and TV series.’ She always had so much versatility- one minute she’d have us crackin’ up as “Lionel’s” biracial girlfriend in “All In The Family” and then the next minute she’d have us crying in her dramatic role as “Irene” in “Roots.” We came across a few recent photos and interview of Ms. Moody and we couldn’t help but notice how good she’s looking at 68 years young! See what we mean below…
Actress Lynne Moody Today & Little Known Facts About Her
Here is Lynne Moody today! She is aging like fine wine at 68. She’s a very private person, so not much is known about her personal life, but we did learn a few fun facts about her. Peep them below…
LYNNE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE “JENNY” ON “THE JEFFERSONS”
Who knew Lynne was the original”Jenny” before actress, Berlinda Tolbert, had the role? “Jenny” on “The Jeffersons.” Before “The Jeffersons,” Lynne played “Lionel’s” girlfriend on “All In The Family” and the producers wanted their roles to carry over into “The Jeffersons”:
“Yes they [the TV network] did want me, but I was already contracted at that time to do “That’s My Mama.” I did guest star later on “The Jeffersons” I played a little bad ass girl, LOL, says Moody.
HER JOB BEFORE BECOMING AN ACTRESS
Lynne Moody revealed that she was a flight attendant prior to becoming an actress in the early 1970’s.
HOW LYNNE MOODY BECAME A PLAYBOY BUNNY
Early on in her career in the early 70’s, she took a leave of absence from her job as a flight attendant, flew to Cali to find acting work and couldn’t find a gig. So she said that she became a Playboy Bunny for steady money for about 7 months. Ain’t no shame in her game. Go ‘head Ms. Moody!
Lynne Moody detailed how difficult it was at times for African American entertainers during the segregation era. She also explained a run-in with the KKK that she had on the set of a 70’s movie set and how her co-star, Chuck Connors, stepped up:
“Chuck Connors was a wonderful man…he looked out for me at that time because it was very segregated in Greenwood, Missippi. And we did have a confrontation with some of the young members of the KKK and ABC had to buy up the entire hotel where we were staying so that I could get a room. Della Reese was in there, it was extremely difficult on all manners.”
LYNNE MOODY REVEALS HER MOST MEMORABLE ROLE
“One of the most significant roles was in ‘Roots’…when I played Alex Haley’s great grandmother. It was the last three hours of Roots. It was really meaningful because Alex Hailey…told us about his ancestors, he told us about my character, ‘Irene.'”
If it’s one thing we always love seeing, it’s an Old School entertainer still around and enjoying life. It looks like Lynne Moody is doing just that. On a side note, it would be great to see her back on TV- maybe she can reconnect with her former “Roots” cast member, Leslie Uggams (she plays “Lucious'” mother on “Empire”), and play her dangerous sister/aunt of “Lucious Lyon.” That would set the show off!
