Have you ever wondered what it was like to actually have “James” as your real Dad? John Amos has two children- a son and a daughter and his son, K.C. Amos, recently spoke out about what it was like to really grow up in the house with the man who was a T.V. father figure to so many of us.
K.C. Amos, on his dad, John Amos. (Via Black America Web):
“One word comes to mind when I think about him [my dad, John Amos] and his role in my life. Inspiration.
As a child, I recall spending moments watching television and seeing my dad enter the living room of his TV family and greet them for dinner. Then when he had days off and when we would be out having lunch off the set, people would come over and say he was their hero as a dad.
I saw that his role was more than a job; that he was actually helping people through his role as a strong father dedicated to mentoring his TV kids. There were life lessons learned in each weekly episode. It was amazing to watch the show become a hit series, changing the face of television sitcoms, particularly in terms of shows that depicted African-American families.”

“I have always despised Christmas and the memories, earlier in life. It’s different now I have no real memory with my older children. Only vivid thought of how things used to be before the drinking and lying. I will see no cards or get no telephone call even I hate you father, nothing on Christmas or otherwise. But there are good fathers who deeply love their children and in turn they love their dad. Don’t get it twisted I love my daughters regardless of their opinion of me. My discerning, is wondering at this stage can the wounds I made heal. I want to believe forgiveness can occur maybe one day? But my daughter’s hold so much animosity and they never express their emotion. I would feel so much better knowing as their father if my daughters were to verbally express the hate they hold against me. Why can’t they communicate how they feel? Through the years, I come to realize the worse feeling is understands that your daughters do not inspire to be nothing close to you as a relative. I feel emotionally my daughters are dead to me; they have no remorse in how they feel about me as their blood relative. I will have no memory of Christmas, when all my children come together with their father and share each other’s company. If only for one day, this I pray. “

I love good times even now it’s sad that had to pretty much fight to put a positive show on the air and a father that people could relate too.
