It’s very rare to see Oprah respond to her opposers. Typically, the billionaire queen brushes the dirt off her shoulder and keeps it movin,’ much like she did recently when comedian/actress, Mo’Nique, slammed her for allegedly getting her blackballed in Hollywood.
However, we did a lil’ diggin’ and found a response that Oprah gave to a fan who tried her over her philanthropy efforts. If there’s one thing we now know about Oprah, there is something she will not tolerate: folks telling her she does not care about the Black community.
Oprah’s Check Session To Fan
The fan asked Oprah online:
@Oprah when are u going 2 give back 2 the ghettos in america?
Oprah checked the hell outta him with much poise and grace, like only she can:
@awalkdatalk when are u? I’ve put 500 African American men thru college . And u sir?
And BOOM! Drops mic. Gotta love it! Oprah was referencing the many men she’s paid full college tuitions for to go to Morehouse University in Atlanta. Guess that fan won’t be coming for her no more. Moving on…
Oprah On Why She No Longer Gives A Damn
That brings us to her recent Vogue Magazine interview. She revealed that with age, came a heightened sense of not-giving-a-damn, no regrets, and contentment. That probably explains why she gave that fan a verbal beatdown, without any fear of people accusing her of boasting and such:
Oprah: “In your 40s, you’re coming into it, you’re intellectualizing things, and you kind of know it and you feel it. But there is a deepening and a broadening and quickening of the knowing that happens in your 50s. Maya Angelou used to say to me, ‘The 50s are everything you’ve been meaning to be.’ You’d been meaning to be that person. By the time you hit 60, there are just no . . . damn . . . apologies. And certainly not at 63. And the weight thing that was always such a physical, spiritual, emotional burden for me—no apologies for that either.”
Ms. Winfrey went on to explain how at this stage in her life, she is fully content with all of the good, the bad, and the ugly that has made up her entire existence and career:
“I don’t know of a person who can honestly, deeply, profoundly speak to the word contentment. […] I have no angst. No…nothing. No regret, no fear. I mean…just absolute joyful contentment.”
Well said Oprah.
