By now, everyone on social media has probably the backlash Kim Burrell faced after footage of one of her controversial sermons went viral. The famed gospel singer made her sentiments of homosexuality clear. She’s not for it at all. Now, it seems the decision to share her opinion has cost her a lot where her career is concerned. Months later, it appears she’s still suffering from consequences of that decision.
Another Canceled Appearance:
Once her previous statements came to our attention, we decided to go in a different direction and the engagement was canceled. Sources report that the singer was scheduled to appear and speak at a state legislative minority caucus church event this coming weekend in Albany. However, the group’s executive director, M. Diana Campbell has released a statement announcing that the event has been abruptly canceled. Apparently, the singer’s statements are coming back to haunt her once again. Campbell explained that the conflicting sermon has played a part in the decision to go “in a different direction” with the upcoming event. “Once her previous statements came to our attention, we decided to go in a different direction and the engagement was canceled.”
Denouncing Homosexuality:
Kim Burrell’s latest cancelation follows a string of reports about her previous sermon denouncing homosexuality. The footage captured Burrell preaching about the spirit of homosexuality and how it has impacted the men and women of today. Burrell also went a step further with a warning message to listeners telling them they could die from the spirit of homosexuality. “That perverted homosexual spirit is the spirit of delusion and confusion and has deceived many men and women. And it has caused a stain on the body of Christ. Anybody in this room who’s filled with the homosexual spirit, beg God to free you. You play with it in 2017, you’ll die from it.”
In wake of the backlash Burrell received, she released a statement of apology but it looks like the damage is already done.
