Staying Focused In The Spotlight:
When most people think of life in the limelight, they envision a person being caught up in the glitz and glam of it all. However, Oprah definitely understands that too much of anything could have negative effects. Although she’s a trending topic relatively often, she admitted tuning into the news is never a top priority on her to-do list in the morning. She aims to stay focused.
“I don’t get up and turn on the TV first thing in the morning. I spend quiet time. I try to center myself, and I’m conscious of what I allow in because there’s so much all day long. I have the app that has all the news stories, so I scroll through the 5 Things You Need to Know Today and then choose which of those things I want to explore more. I try not to lean into the hysteria. I’ve heard a lot of Twitter chatter where people have said, “Where are you? You should be speaking up on these things!” But it makes no sense to speak when you cannot be heard. One hundred and forty characters—that is not how you want to make your mark in the world.”
Her Approach To Life:
To most fans, Oprah is one of those celebrities with a good head on her shoulders. Due to her humble beginnings, fans are well aware that Oprah wasn’t an overnight success and many wonder how she’s gotten as far as she has over the years. She explained how finding the life lesson and purpose of each meaningful moment helped her to achieve as much as she has. She recalled a time when she was on the set of The Color Purple, long before she purchased her sprawling mansion in Santa Barbara, CA. Even then, she knew she wanted to have a beautiful home and surround herself with meaningful and purposeful things in life:
“I think back to the time in 1985 when I was away shooting ‘The Color Purple’ and my dream was to have a beautiful home and be surrounded by things that matter to me. So I’m really thrilled that I’ve been able to create that life, the one I was dreaming of in 1985. I get a lot of comfort from that.”

Takin’ No S**t:
As the interview progressed, Oprah got down to nitty gritty and opened up a bit more. The 64-year-old billionaire gave fans a glimpse of how she really is behind closed doors. One of the most memorable parts of the interview centered around Oprah’s explanation of tolerating B.S. the older one gets. She made it clear that once you cross the 40-year threshold, you “take no s**t” from anyone:
“You take no s**t. None. Not a bit. In your 40’s you want to say you take no s**t, but you still do. In your 60s, you take none. There’s both a quickening and a calming—there’s a sense that you don’t have as much time on earth as you once did. For me, there’s also a sense of calming about that. People coming with anything less than what is the truth or authentic? Don’t even try.”

#Oprah2020:
As expected, Oprah Winfrey also addressed the rumors about her possibly running for president in 2020. After her moving speech at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, she received a standing ovation and raised lots of speculation about the possibility of a run for the White House. Almost immediately after the powerful speech, the hashtag #Oprah2020 became a trending topic. But despite the outpouring of support, Oprah made it clear the presidency just ain’t her thing. She’s accomplished quite a bit in her career but taking the Oval won’t be one of her accomplishments:
“That’s not for me,” Oprah said. “I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it.”

Culture Climate In The Entertainment World:
After settin’ the record straight on a few pressing, yet interesting, issues, Oprah went on to discuss one more controversial topic – the sexual assault allegations looming over Hollywood. So, what are her thoughts? Oprah expressed how she believes timing is everything, according to E! News.
“Everything that’s happened has brought us to this point in time. We’ve been working our way through a lot of repressed pain, anger, shame, and disappointment,” she said. “And we weren’t honoring our own voices.”
Although accused sexual assaulter/Hollywood exec, Harvey Weinstein, has been a longtime friend of Oprah’s, she didn’t cut him any slack and made no excuses for his actions:
“Now we’re here, and it took Harvey Weinstein to burst that door wide open. But Harvey [Weinstein] wasn’t the first one. It was Bill Cosby before him, and Bill O’Reilly before him. It’s just fascinating to me because I always try to look at things from thousands of feet above…” As more people come forward about sexism and sexual assault, she says, “It has seared into the consciousness a level of awareness that was not there before. That’s the most important thing to me. When Reese Witherspoon can tell her story at the same time as a farm worker in Iowa or a factory worker in Alabama, it says to a person, ‘Oh well, I’ve been putting up with that a**hole supervisor for all these years. Maybe it’s time for me to do something too.'”
