Sadly, Cuba Gooding Jr. his brother/actor, Omar Gooding, and their two siblings received the heart wrenching news that they’d lost their father, soul singer Cuba Gooding Sr., on Thursday (4-20-17).
As we previously reported, Cuba Sr., the lead singer for Main Ingredient, was found unresponsive and slumped over in his Jaguar in Woodland Hills, Ca., and that is the pain that Cuba Jr. is attempting to manage while currently on set in Toronto, Canada filming the movie, Life in a Year. Although he’s thousands of miles away from his mother, Shirley- who has been married to his dad for many years- and the rest of his family, Cuba Jr. thankfully has one fellow American actor who’s in Canada with him and supporting him through his grief.
Cuba Jr’s unlikely shoulder to lean on during this horrific time, is none other than Will Smith’s 18-year old son, Jaden, who is co-starring in Life in a Year with Cuba. Although Cuba (49) is 31 years Jaden’s senior, he seems grateful to have the young brotha by his side right now.
It was reported that when Cuba got the news about his Dad’s death, as he was filming Thursday, he was understandably grief stricken. But Jaden immediately started talking to him and helping him cope with the weight he had to bear while working through his pain. The below photo of Cuba was snapped Thursday, soon after finding out about his beloved father’s passing…
And by Friday, Cuba was in better spirits, as he took a break from filming and talked with Jaden…

It’s a beautiful thing to see Jaden stand by his elder’s side at a time like this and we sincerely hope Cuba can continue to keep his morale up throughout his contractual obligations to get the film done. That’s gotta be extremely tough on him. Our continued condolences to the Gooding family.
