Actress Sanaa Lathan has solidified her spot within the culture with natural beauty and down-to-earth personality, a rarity in this day and age. She is old school Hollywood glamour mixed with round the way girl charm. And she’s always been blessed to star in some of our favorite movies like The Best Man franchise, Brown Sugar and the classic film Love & Basketball. In the film she stars opposite Omar Epps and their chemistry and acting make it re-watchable to this day.
However Lathan has recently admitted that during the filming she wasn’t at her 100%. And though nobody was able to tell from her performance, she admitted to being absolutely miserable.
In an interview with Los Angeles’ CBS Local Lathan sat down to discuss the pressure she endured while filming Gina Prince-Bythewood’s directorial debut. Though she snagged the role she always felt as though her selection was based more off of need than want.
“I got the job and I think Gina [Prince-Bythewood] finally got to the point where she had to hire somebody. It’s almost like she hired me because she couldn’t find somebody else. There wasn’t a lot of joy and there wasn’t a lot of trust in me. It was her baby and it was her first time directing. It was a big deal for her and nobody knows me then really”
Audiences immediately fell in love with Lathan’s warmth and transparency in all of her scenes. But her commitment to the character of Monica came at a cost. And while she made the role look easy she admits it was one of the hardest things she’s ever done in her life.
