Amid Protests, Diddy Makes Bold Statement About The NFL, But Would Players Be Interested?

Like millions of people nationwide, Diddy has been paying close attention to the controversy surrounding the NFL. For many celebrities, the situation sheds light on a brutally honest truth about athletes, in particular, African American athletes – regardless of how much money they make, freedom often comes with a price. Where the NFL is concerned, freedom of speech is apparently the sacrifice. But Diddy is like ‘Nuh uh, not on my watch!’ In fact, it appears the NFL controversy has inspired Diddy to pursue another dream.

‘Take Dat…Take Dat Roger Goodell’

Diddy took to Twitter with a bold response to NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell’s, statement about the national anthem. For those who missed it, Goodell believes “everyone should stand for the National Anthem,” and that “the controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues.”

NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell

Goodell’s made it clear that he opposes the silent protest, despite players’ first amendment rights. Crazy, right? Of course Diddy feels differently and after seeing the commissioner’s statement, he let his Twitter fingers do the talking. In a flurry of Twitter posts, Diddy weighed in on the situation. He admitted he used to dream of owning an NFL team, but now he’s looking at the bigger picture. He doesn’t want to just own a team, the Bad Boy CEO wants his own league. Apparently, Diddy wants a league where players aren’t subjected to harsh treatment for ridiculous reasons like the ones currently plaguing the NFL. He also sees having his own league as a means of freedom in many different forms.

“I did have a dream to own a NFL team but after this post, my DREAM IS TO OWN OUR OWN LEAGUE. WHERE YOU CAN BE YOURSELF. Have a retirement plan. Have the freedom to be a great human and protest for your people without being demonized for your beliefs as a KING!!!!! New dream alert!!!!! Sell me the NFL NOW!!!! #f*ckthat #takedat AND FOR THE RECORD IM NOT EVEN MAD. ITS OUR FAULT FOR NOT HAVING THE COURAGE OUR ANCESTORS HAD!!!!! Maaaaaaan!!!! #TAKEDAT AGAIN”

Ongoing Controversy:

Diddy’s social media post follows a string of reports about the NFL debate. As players continue to kneel and Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned, higher authorities continue to stir the pot in hopes of silencing NFL players quietly protesting the National Anthem. Over the weekend, Vice President Mike Pence made headlines after he left the Indianapolis Colts game over the silent protest. Later that day, Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones sparked controversy when he insisted players would be penalized if they refused to stand for the anthem. But ironically, he also kneeled with players weeks ago. Unfortunately, it looks like the NFL controversy won’t end anytime soon.
