Earlier this year, Aretha Franklin announced her upcoming retirement from music, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be doing anything else. Apparently, the Queen of Soul has big plans after retirement- everything from relocating, to opening a new business, ‘Re-re’ is ready to hit the ground runnin.’ According to Detroit Free Press, Aretha is planning to move back to the Motor City where it all began and she wants to open a nightclub.
Aretha Explains Her New Business Plans:
During an interview with the Detroit Free Press, she opened up about the idea she’s wanted to develop for the past few years. The nightclub, befittingly named ‘Aretha’s,’ is a venture the singer is looking to open in downtown Detroit, MI. After years of dreaming about her own nightclub, she’s finally moving forward with the development plans. Ms. “You better think,” -who currently lives in Bloomfield Hills, right outside the metropolitan city- is also planning to move to the downtown area for business purposes:
“I’m interested in doing a small nightclub downtown, and he (Bruce Schwartz, Detroit relocation ambassador for Bedrock Real Estate Services) and I have been talking about this for a couple of years now and I’m just letting him know I’m still interested. In my retirement plan, I’d like to have a small club here in Detroit.”
The Club’s Features:
When asked what fans can expect from the nightclub, Aretha revealed live music would be a focal point and that special artists would be scheduled to perform. Of course, you’ll see her every now and then, but she’ll most likely spend more time behind the scenes. “From time to time I would sing, and of course, I would have special artists come in to perform for the city that people in Detroit like — Detroit favorites.”
Right now, Aretha hasn’t announced an official date opening date for the club because she’s still working on her last album, which is set to be released this fall. It’s gonna be really cool to see Queen Re-Re earn some R-E-S-P-E-C-T in the nightclub business though. We’ll keep y’all posted.
