After Awkward Happy Birthday To Will Smith, Garcelle Beauvais Faces Extreme Backlash

Today just happens to be a very special day for Will Smith. The famed “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is officially 50-years-old. As expected, fans from all around the world have flooded the former rapper-turned-actor’s social media accounts with birthday wishes.

But fans aren’t the only people wishing him well on his big day. Apparently, Garcelle Beauvais decided to join the long list of people who wished Will a happy birthday, but she’s actually gettin’ dragged for doin’ so. If you haven’t seen her birthday post, it’ll probably leave you scratching your head.

Appropriate or Nah?:

In honor of Will’s birthday, Garcelle Beauvais decided to reach out to her former Wild Wild West co-star via social media. The actress/model posted a screen capture of a heated kiss she shared with Will when they starred in the 1999 film. With the Twitter post, Garcelle included the caption, “A birthday kiss for the birthday boy #willsmith,” she wrote. “Happy 50th.”

A Birthday Kiss:

Of course, it didn’t take long for the former “Jamie Foxx Show” actress to catch all kinds of backlash for the post. Although Garcelle obviously didn’t see any harm in the post, many social media users thought otherwise.

The post sparked a heated debate with social media users arguing about whether or not it was appropriate, considering Will is a married man. To make matters worse, Garcelle has also been criticized for the caption, which many have considered to be a loaded, cryptic statement.

According to Atlanta Black Star, many of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s fans came to her defense, sharing concerns about the seemingly controversial post.

However, some people actually defended Garcelle.

From a different perspective, some fans considered the fact that Will and Jada have said they have an open marriage. With that being said, the post may be as problematic as it seems. The Atlanta Black Star also made mention of Jada’s previous statement about their marriage. “I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay,” she previously told HuffPost Live.

Needless to say, Garcelle Beauvais has now removed the post. After receiving so much backlash, she responded to the critics admitting she made a mistake. She tweeted, “Ok guys it was supposed to be a funny post My bad if I offended anyone! If you are my followers you know I’m all about lifting up people and being positive being human I made a mistake … Have beautiful blessed day.”

Unfortunately, people still wouldn’t let it go.

But regardless of whether she did or didn’t, the Smith family was a bit occupied today anyway.

50 and Unbothered:

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Will Smith celebrated his 50th by bungee jumping over the Grand Canyon. According to Complex, Will also took to social media with up-to-the-minute posts of his day and even shared a family photo which included his wife Jada and all three of the kids. So, it’s probably safe to say Will didn’t have much time for the drama today… He was clearly out livin’ his best life.
