She is Atlantic Starr’s former lead singer, Barbara weathers. Many may not know her name, but you probably know her face and like we said, if you like 80’s R&B, you definitely know her voice from those classic Atlantic Starr jams, “Secret Lovers” and “Always.”
Barbara joined Atlantic Starr in 1984 after the original female lead singer Sharon Bryant left the group to pursue her solo career. Barbara eventually left the group in 1987 to also pursue a solo career, but the impact she made in her short three year stint left a long lasting impression on R&B fans across the globe.
Ever since her departure, Ms. Weathers released a self-titled solo album on Reprise Records with help of singer-songwriter/record producer of Earth, Wind, and Fire, Maurice White, as well as other well-known musicians. In 1995 Weathers released her album, “Seeing For the Very First Time” and she has also released a third album named Satisfaction Guaranteed which was released in October 2011.
Barbara is still performing and hopefully we’ll get to here new music from her soon. In the meantime you can check out her website at barbaraweathers.com
