maintain the $70 million lifestyle she is accustomed to living, although the papers didn’t specify the exact dollar amount she wants to be able to continue to live that life. With no pre-nup, two beautiful children, and almost 20 years of marriage, Malaak may be able to get close to half. Don’t think it’s possible? Just ask Michael Jordan, who was in the same position with his ex-wife Juanita during their non-prenup divorce proceedings.
Juanita walked away with a cool $168 million of Jordan’s $350 million fortune. Good Lawd! This is making my pressure go up just thinking about it, so I can only imagine what Chris Rock is feeling right about now…LOL.

As a matter of fact, we know exactly what Chris is feeling because he told The Guardian newspaper how it was taking an emotional toll on him. He said: “You know, some days are better than others, some days you’re sad outta your fu*king mind. But my daughters are good, and I’m only an hour away. Two houses close by. It’s good.”

So I guess that sums it up, doesn’t it?
I’m not saying Malaak doesn’t deserve anything because she absolutely does for the years that they’ve been together. Malaak and Chris met at the Essence Awards in 1996 when she was working in public relations and they married that same year. Court records say that she quickly gave up her career to become a full time mother. Aside from staying committed to her charity work, Malaak now spends most of her time taking care of her and Chris’ kids — Lola Simone, 13, and Zahra Savannah, 11 — in their luxurious home in Alpine, NJ.

The court docs also say Malaak and Chris have already agreed to 50-50 child custody.

I can’t help but imagine what position Chris would be in right now if he would have really taken his former mentor, Eddie Murphy’s, advice to heart when Eddie told the story in his Raw stand-up about the horrors of becoming a big time celebrity and ultimately having to give up “half” of your earnings after divorce. We can’t totally fault Chris though because like I said, he did have a pre-nup, but as my Grandmomma used to say, Chris was just “a day late and a dollar short” on this one.

We wish Chris and Malaak a continued peaceful, non-messy divorce process and we hope they’re children are adjusting pretty well to their Mommy and Daddy living separate lives now because that’s not easy for any child. It’s clear to see that both Chris and Malaak ultimately have their children’s best interest at heart, so that’s always a good thing. Take us out Johnnie Taylor!
