During the infancy of Hip Hop it was hard to find a lot of feminine voices to combat the male dominated genre, which is still reflective in today’s society as hip hop continues its reign as one of the most popular forms of music worldwide. Iconic female rap group Salt N Pepa have always held their own with their unapologetic style of music and since the beginning they’ve done so with unofficial third member DJ Spinderella by their side. But now, in a recent Instagram post, it appears that Spinderella is no longer a part of the group and hasn’t been for quite some time.
Still Killing The Game
Back in 1987 Salt N Pepa group members Cheryl ‘Salt’ James and Sandra ‘Pepa’ Denton had to replace their original DJ Spinderella Latoya Hanson after she departed the group. That’s when sixteen year old Deidra Roper was brought on and the rest, as they say, is history. For years Salt, Pepa and Spinderella dominated the rap and R&B charts with infectious hits that can still be played today and turn any old school party out. From the early days of ‘Push It’ to their 1990’s duet with legendary quartet En Vogue ‘Whatta Man’ Salt N Pepa knew how to deliver back to back hits!

Their popularity has never waned and even today Salt N Pepa remain current by touring and appearing on a new reality show with fellow 90’s iconic group SWV called Ladies Night. Salt N Pepa are also slated to perform on the New Kids On The Block headlined Mixtape Tour, which also features Naughty By Nature. However, if you were expecting to see DJ Spinderella hit the stage with Salt N Pepa that’s not going to happen. At all.
