Okay so if you haven’t heard, yesterday (8-8-15) Floyd Mayweather Jr. was asked to rank his top 5 favorite boxers of all time on a sports TV show. Let’s just say that this new schooler needs to show more respect for his elders.
Mayweather basically minimalized Muhammad Ali’s skills, rep,’ and accomplishments in boxing by pretty much implying that Ali doesn’t necessarily deserve all of the accolades he’s gotten in boxing, but he did say he deserves props for his civil rights efforts. Here’s part of what Mayweather said…
He gave a fair assessment. He was asked about who he considered as the greatest boxer, not who he considered as a great humanitarian. Although he was cocky, he gave props to Muhammad Ali. He kept it real.
I see what you’re saying Action411, but to me it just seems like Mayweather’s a lil’ too cocky when it comes to his view on Ali, because I’ve never heard him actually acknowledge the fact that he got his boxing persona from Ali, nor that Ali has actually knocked out some top notch boxers in his career, unlike Mayweather. True Mayweather has won more, but he should also consider the comparison between some (not all) of the fighters he’s fought versus some of the ones Ali has fought and won by knockout (not by technical knockout). I personally think Mayweather is an impeccable fighter and I’m a fan of his work, but again, like we stated in the article, he’s definitely entitled to his own opinion, I just wish he would show a tad bit more respect for the man who paved the way for him to put his foot through the door. Thanks for giving us your take on this.
