‘In August last year, we got into a fight at his Aunt Angela’s place,’ she said. ‘He was drinking and doing drugs. I had left my daughter with a friend but he was mad and running around the streets, shouting for me to bring her over.

‘I went to get her, to calm him down, but he had passed out. When I woke him up, he became violent and smashed up his aunt’s glass table. We were tussling and I got bruised up. He slammed a door and my daughter was hit in the face.’

Miss Hadley said that Davenport could be paranoid and said he would tell her that his friends were watching her.

He sent text messages, even after they had broken up, including one in May where he wrote: ‘You unfriended a n*****? You value ya life lol’.

Miss Hadley said: ‘He was too mysterious. He wouldn’t tell me where he was and what he was doing. I joked with him that he had ‘dark’ eyes… they were scary.’

Davenport texted Miss Hadley at Christmas 2014 to tell her he would be in Harrisburg for the holidays. At that point the pair resumed their romantic relationship.

Miss Hadley last heard from Davenport in June when he sent her text messages wishing her a happy birthday.

His messages read: ‘It’s good to hear from you and know you good hope to see you soon.

‘Happy Birthday nique nique hope your enjoying.’

It’s really sad that both E’Dena Hines and Davenport’s ex girlfriend, Hadley, continued to go back to him after he showed them that he was abusive and paranoid. That’s the typical pattern of an abused person. There are almost always some deep rooted issues that were present in both the abusee and abuser long before the abusive abusive relationship begins. Fortunately for Hadley, she was not in the wrong place at the wrong time with her ex, and hopefully she can now break the cycle. Unfortunately it’s too late for Morgan Freeman’s step-grandbaby, may E’Dena Hines rest peacefully and justice gets served to her and her family.

All we can do now is learn from E’Dena’s life: If we ever have a loved one in an abusive relationship, we must do everything in our power to get them away from their abusive partners, even if our loved ones turn on us as a result. It’s more important that they live, than like us. Now of course we can’t make an adult do something they do not want to do, but we can definitely give it our all and maybe, just maybe we’ll be successful at saving a life.
