Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King have been friends for as long as fans can remember; most likely even longer. So, it comes as no surprise that they’ve been through some of everything and know so much about each other. Now, Gayle is opening up about her bestie and fans are quite surprised to hear what she has to say. In fact, those who love Oprah love her even more now that Gayle has spilled all the tea. According to Vanity Fair, Gayle recently revealed Oprah has a love for the green leaf and we ain’t talkin’ about her OWN drama series.
Oprah Gets High:
During Gayle King’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, “marijuana cigarettes” became a topic of discussion. The CBS This Morning anchor started by admitting she has never smoked marijuana. “I said I’ve never smoked a marijuana cigarette. I never have. Maybe that’s part of the problem — [I call it a] cigarette.” However, she did reveal her bestie Oprah is no stranger puffin’ and passin.’ “Oprah has also smoked a little marijuana, too, I don’t mind saying. I’m not telling tales out of school.” Of course, this led to tons of questions but Gayle made it clear that her lips are sealed. “I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may incriminate her. It’s not something that happens on a regular — I’m going to change the subject.”
While Oprah and Gayle have done lots of things together over the years, Gayle admits smokin’ is one thing they haven’t done together. “I’ve gone all this time without smoking…am I missing something?” she asks. “I prefer to be high on life. I’m so glad to be on the planet doing the jobs that we do.”

A Lifetime of Friendship:
There’s likely no need to speculate about whether or not Gayle King is telling the truth. When it comes to Oprah, no one probably knows her better. The two have been friends for more than 40 years and their strong bond has managed to overcome any obstacle thrown their way. In fact, their friendship began with as a result of an obstacle; a snowstorm to be exact. During a 2015 interview with the Huffington Post, Gayle explained how a nighttime snowstorm in Baltimore opened the door to their 40-year friendship. Gayle recalled how Oprah, who was her co-worker at the time, had invited her to stay at her home during a snowstorm. “We didn’t really know each other,” says Gayle, “but she was just that kind of girl even then. When I said didn’t have any clothes with me, she said ‘you can wear mine,’ and when I said I didn’t have any underwear she said, ‘you can borrow mine, it’s clean!”
The following day when they ventured to the mall, Gayle was shocked that Oprah – who was making a substantial $22,000 back in ’76 – picked up two sweaters for $19.99. For Gayle, that was mindblowing. “”We became friends that first night because for the first time, I met somebody who I felt was like me,” Gayle said.”
While many people have often wondered how Gayle feels about being “Oprah Winfrey’s best friend,” she’s made it clear she has no problem with that. During that interview, she offered a profound reason why. “I see myself standing in her light, not in her shadow,” Gayle said.
