In case you haven’t heard by now, in recent years, Grace Jones received a lot of press because she’s been doing many interviews. As usual, whenever Grace Jones speaks her truth comes out — raw, uncut, uncensored– and whomever is caught in her crossfire…so be it!
A few years ago she let the world know how she really feels about Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and she even took shots at Rihanna, Beyonce, Madonna. But then…duh, duh duh duuuuuuh…she let one of her admittedly ‘biggest fans,’ pop star Lady Gaga, have it.
Grace Jones said Lady Gaga is “obsessed” with her. Grace’s brother (and reality TV star), Bishop Noel Jones, has also said that Lady Gaga’s people have reached out to him several times to ask him to talk Grace into doing a song with Gaga, and he told them that his big sis’ is very strong headed and will only do what she wants to do, but he’ll try.
Tried he did, and Grace said no. Then Grace spoke out and said “She [Lady Gaga] is obsessed! She’s been trying to get me to work with her forever. She’s even gone to my brother in L.A. to get him to try and talk me into it.”
Jones also threw a little bit of shade at Gaga, Beyonce’, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, and Rihanna in her new book, “I Will Never Write My Memoirs”:
“I have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes that people assume I am that rich. But I did things for the excitement, the dare, the fact that it was new, not for the money. And too many times I was the first, not the beneficiary.”
There’s a lot of that around at the moment. Be like Sasha Fierce. Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna. I cannot be like them, except to the extent that they are already being like me.”
Fast forward to now, and at some point Grace Jones and Lady Gaga finally met. However, that’s what Grace said was like the ‘nail in the coffin’ for her, regarding just how much she was not feelin’ Gaga’s “soul” at all. Here’s what US Magazine reported:
[Grace Jones] revealed during a recent interview with Bevy Smith on SiriusXM’s Bevelations that when she met Lady Gaga, she didn’t connect with her.
“Gaga came to me, and I just could not find a soul,” Jones told Smith. “I come from church — maybe that has something to do with it. I like to get to the soul of a person. I just didn’t feel a soul.”
Jones, however, made it clear that she doesn’t think Gaga is soulless. “She might have been freaked out with meeting me,” she explained. “This happened. It’s okay, but then we met three times after, through [Philip] Treacy and, boy, I got so angry.”Angry, Jones explained, because she felt that Gaga was ripping her off when it came to sporting the designer’s work. “I know Philip needed to make some money, but you know what, can you just wait until I finish my tour before you repeat what we are working on?”
Although Grace may not express herself in a way that makes some people comfortable – due to her uninhibited rawness – her stance on this is pretty understandable. She has not received enough recognition for spearheading the artistic free-spirited movement and being the fashion-risk-taking pioneer that she is. Maybe Ms. Jones should just look at it this way: If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em and make the world recognize who the true leader of the pack really is.
