Many of today’s music artists are cowards, here’s why:
Today (May 1, 2015) Freddie Gray’s death was ruled a homicide in the city of Baltimore by the state’s attorney, Marilyn J. Mosby. Mosby announced that she filed homicide, manslaughter, and misconduct charges against police officers in the death of Gray. This is wonderful news, but we couldn’t help but think about the fact that ever since the Baltimore riots and unrest have started on April 27, 2015, that most of today’s “hottest” multi-platinum selling artists have been silent.
So in my humble opinion, these artists are cowards because all I hear coming from these rappers and songbirds is the sound of crickets at a time like right now. These artists have a lot of power with their huge multi-million social media following and fans and they can spark great change and calm over the people, but they choose not to. Sure you will see a few of them put up a “Pray for Baltimore” meme, or you’ll see one or two of these artists post one link for cleanup efforts in Baltimore, but where is their VOICE?!! Their followers who believe in them need more than a silent pic or web link, they need their idols to get loud and SPEAK OUT against injustice. Change can’t happen by sitting in silence and posting pics, or none at all.
There’s no way James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, N.W.A., Nina Simone, Public Enemy, Gil Scott-Heron, KRS-1 (I could go on and one) would have just stood by and been silent at a time like right now. Like I said, today’s artists have an extreme amount of power, but it wasn’t the artists, it was the people who stood up and protested against Freddie’s death and their effect is probably what ultimately got those charges brought on against those police officers, without the help of the artists.
Don’t get me wrong, there are still a few rap artists who will stand up and as far as the R&B artists, I can’t think of any who are standing up, but overall, the top sellers in both genres have their lips sealed tighter than a bank vault.
I personally like some of these artists’ music, but I just could not ride with them on their lack of using their voices when their followers need them the most. So I’m calling these artists out by simply putting what they’ve been posting on their social media pages ever since April 27th when the riots over Freddie Gray’s death really exploded in the streets. Tell us if you think they should have had their priorities in better order than this:

I agree 100%. They talk tough on stage and in studios just to sell records. They don’t practice what they preach like fake Pastors. I bet u they will write songs about Gray.

The fact that the purveyors of this garbage they call music today aren’t making protest music to me is just as well. No protest music is better than BAD protest music.

These people are not going to jeopardize their almighty dollars by being policitally incorrect. They care absolutely nothing about what’s going on in black America because money changes your color.

Lighten up folks. These artists are bought and paid for. They are not independent. Each one is feeding and supporting the lifestyle of at least 25-50 blood-suckers who have no identification whatsoever with the environment in which these artists were raised. Their art is generic. Their souls are sold.
