The Black Hand Side

A few short years ago, Halle Berry’s half sister, Renee, (from Halle’s African American father’s side) put her on blast for allegedly disowning the Black side of her family.

We don’t know how true her sister’s allegations are, nor if they’ve since resolved it, but her claims are still interesting and sparks great conversation about fame and about money possibly making folks do something strange for some change.

Here’s what was reported about Halle Berry’s sister’s claims:

Via: DailyMail: [Halle Berry’s sister] Renee, a food service worker from Alabama, is desperate to reconnect with her famous sister.

Renee is the daughter of Halle’s late African-American father, Jerome and Edwina Taylor – who broke up with him shortly before he started dating the actress’ mother, Judith Hawkins. Although Jerome and Judith split up when Halle was just four years old, Renee remained ‘very close’ to the future Hollywood star while they were growing up – despite cutting herself off from her father after the divorce.

Renee said: “I’m sad to say it seems like she does not want anything to do with us. I have not spoken to her in about five years. I tried to contact her through her website, to congratulate her on her Oscar, but no one got back to me.”

Renee on not meeting Halle’s daughter, and why Halle actually became mad at her:

“We would love to meet Nahla. We are desperate to understand why Halle is so upset, why she feels she cannot be with us.” (Renee’s statement was made prior to Halle’s second child being born).

Renee claims Halle was angry with her when she made a public plea to visit Jerome when he was dying from Parkinson’s Disease. Despite Halle’s negative memories of her childhood with Jerome, Renee paints a very different picture of their father as a ‘good man’. She said: ‘My father never beat any of us. He would spank us from time to time, but he never abused us. He liked a drink or two, like anyone else does, but he was not an alcoholic.’

You know the Old School saying ‘Mo money, mo problems?’ Well it certainly does apply in this case. Again, we don’t know what is true and what’s not, but a one thing that caught our attention is that if Halle and her sister, were as close as Renee says they were, why weren’t they ever photo’d out together anywhere?

Maybe There’s A Reason

Sure, it’s very possible for celebs to have a private life, but the way the paparazzi was hovering over Halle’s every single move for so many years, it’s damn near impossible for the press to not have gotten a glimpse of Halle’s sister. It just seems like that would have been a very newsworthy photo, given that no one’s ever really seen any of Halle’s relatives, other than her Mother and two children.

Therefore the lack of the two being seen in public together could be due to one of three reasons:

1.  Her sister’s idea of “close,” ain’t really as close as she probably thought it was, or is trying to imply.

2.  Halle was consciously attempting to hide the Black side of her fam,’ just as her sister claimed.

3.  Just like any of us regular folks have in our families, maybe Halle felt that her sister might cut up in public if she brought her in front of the cameras with all of that fanfare…LOL. C’mom now, don’t act like you don’t have that ONE family member that you know you can’t take ANYWHERE, because they would act a pure fool in public…but you still love them to death though.

Whatever the reason, we hope Halle and her sister, Renee, work it out…if they haven’t already done so. Sometimes family is all you’ve got after the well runs dry and the lights go out.
