Let’s take a minute to talk about how beautiful Kathleen Bradley is looking at 64 years young! She damn near looks exactly like she did in her “Ms. Parker” days! We always love to see an entertainer from back in the day taking care of themselves and making us Old Schoolers proud. Ms. Bradley is putting a hurtin’ on some of these youngins out here…show ’em how it’s done “Ms Parker!”
So what has Kathleen been up to lately you ask? Quite a few things. She has a new tell-all book out and a couple years ago she was not shy about voicing her dislike regarding being left out of the talks of a Friday sequel. After rumors surfaced in 2013 that there may be another Friday movie in the works, Kathleen made it no secret that she was not pleased to not have been asked to be a part of it, and she even urged fans to not go support the movie. Watch her talk about that here…
There is also a Showtime TV show in the works that will be a comedy based on Kathleen, TV’s first African American game show host, where she will also be a consultant for the show. Some of you may recall when Kathleen was a ‘Barker Beauty’ on The Price Is Right for 10 years- from 1990 to 2000. She said that her time there was great until the end when Bob Barker fired her, we’ll get into that in a minute.
But first we must tell you who Kathleen said inspired her to write her book- none other than former hip hop groupie, Karrine “Superhead” Steffans! Can you believe that?!! Kathleen said “I saw it [Karrine’s tell all book] had New York Best Seller on it and said ‘If she can do it, I know I can.”
We just wanted to share that Superhead inspired fun fact with you because we think it’s pretty interesting…and random. Now back to Bob Barker- according to Kathleen, Bob Barker fired her after she and some of the other ‘Barker Beauties’ had to testify in a lawsuit filed by their fellow “Beauty,” Holly Hollstrom, after Hollstrom was also fired by Bob. TheReelNetwork reported that Hollstrom was allegedly let go after ‘she refused to go along with his plot to tarnish the reputation of yet another model on the show [Diane Parkinson] who sued Barker for sexual harassment.’ It was assumed that Barker didn’t like the testimony that Kathleen and the other ladies gave. “It surprised us when we were let go. It was unjustified. I could have sued, but I didn’t want to,” Kathleen said. The Bob Barker story and many others are included in Kathleen’s memoir/tell-all book titled, “Backstage at The Price is Right: Memoirs of a Barker Beauty.” In the book, she explains, in further detail, how she and the other women on The Price Is Right had severe issues with bulimia, sexual harassment, how they were always in fear of losing their jobs and it also has inside stories about her interactions with other male celebs during that time and tensions on the set.
Kathleen said that Bob Barker has always been a nice guy, but that his personality started to become slightly more cold after the former Barker Beauty and his ex-fling, Diane Parkinson, became scorned behind their breakup and ultimately said that Barker sexually harassed her after he broke up with her. Kathleen said that Diane’s claims were unjustified and had no merit and Barker also adamantly denied that he sexually harassed Diane. Diane later dropped the charges, but after that whole fiasco and a damaged reputation on Bob Barker’s end, he didn’t really trust a lot of the females on the set.
Kathleen said “It made Bob bitter, it really did. It tainted his personality, because ‘The Price Is Right’ was the all American, iconic family show. And whether he did it or not (it ruined his reputation). It’s just like when you do something allegedly and people put your name out there and then retract it, people may not even know it. But people always thought that about him and, still to this day, talk about him. No, he wasn’t like that.”
And there you have it folks.Ms. ParkerKathleen Bradley has dedicated herself to pushing her new memoir and it shares many stories about her time on the show that are told in a way that was inspired by Superhead. This ought to make one helluva read.-ILoveOldSchoolMusic, old school news with a new point of view
