These days rather than singing about them, Kelis is making milkshakes in the privacy of her own kitchen. But she is taking her culinary game and healthy lifestyle up a notch with the announcement of a big change in her life. Kelis has put her 1920’s Los Angeles home on the market for $1.885 million so that she can buy a farm instead. She is moving her family to the country, y’all!
Kelis loves everything about the place that she has called home since buying it in 2012. However, she is inspired by the need to improve her family’s health by feeding them foods that she grows herself and plans to do it responsibly.
“Now that I’ve got these two boys, I want to control a little bit more how we eat,” Kelis told Architectural Digest as she gave them a tour of the five-bedroom home. “We’re buying a farm, so that’s why we’re moving: so that we can grow everything and sustain everything that way.”

The Cordon Blue-trained chef has learned a thing or two about cooking with fresh ingredients and preparing delicious meals from scratch. The gift runs in the family–Kelis’ mother is also a chef. By all accounts, Kelis’ dinner parties are legendary. Guests rave about the taste and quality of her meals which are clearly a labor of love. The My Life on a Plate cookbook author wants to continue that trend in her daily life.
The home, which has been restored to a classic sensibility, boasts two modernized kitchens with all the bells and whistles a chef would love. One cooking space is inside while the other is outdoors amid a backdrop of lush landscaping. The outdoor space lends itself to easy, elegant entertaining. In their new home, Kelis wants to continue creating dining experiences that appeal to all of the senses.
“We smoke meat, so we have a barbecue smoker,” Kelis continued. “We can do great grilled vegetables and steaks and sit outside with a glass of wine. It’s so nice.”

But the woman of many talents will soon have to say goodbye to the stunning 3,850 square foot Spanish-style home in Glendale, California. The 38-year-old will be moving her 8-year-old son Knight, whose father is legendary rapper Nas, along with husband Mike Mora and the son that they share Shepherd, 2, out of the city. They will be settling into a more rustic, earthy lifestyle and somehow that makes perfect sense.
