Do you know Tyra Ferrell? Most people have probably seen her but haven’t connected all the dots to her acting career. The seasoned actress, who portrayed Ricky and Dough Boy’s mother in Boyz In the Hood has come a long way from the John Singleton-produced hood classic.
If most of you old schoolers didn’t know, after Tyra Ferrell finished her high school, she moved from Houston to New York and started her career on stage including roles on Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music and Ain’t Misbehavin on Broadway. She made her screen debut in a small role in the 1981 comedy film “So Fine”.
The recently played ‘District Attorney Roxanne Ford’ on FOX’s hit primetime series Empire. But, over the years, Tyra stepped back from the public eye and embraced motherhood.
No Longer A Little Girl:
However, her daughter is no longer a little girl. You’ll be shocked to see the beautiful woman she has become.
At 25, Tyra Ferrell’s daughter, Amina Kamau, looks just like her. The striking young lady is now evolving into the strong, independent woman she aspires to be. Now, Amina is looking to join the fight against police brutality and based on her family’s history, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
She Revealed This About Her Parents:
Tyra Ferrell’s parents instilled great values that she’s passed on to her daughter. Amina Kamau described her parents as “militant.” Her father, Diop Kamau, is a former Hartford, CT sergeant who was actively involved in the fight against police brutality back in the 80s. As he’s seen doing in the video below…
Tyra Ferrell and Diop Kamau instilled those beliefs in their daughter and now she’s working to get her message out.
In 2017, Amina was majoring in political science, with the hope of pursuing a career in politics. Her fervent desire to be involved began with hours of involvement in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and she aspires to do so much more.

Tyra and Diop couldn’t be more proud of the young woman they’re raised to continue in their footsteps.
