hug and makeup on several occasions, which is why we saw Bill Lee’s name on the credits for musically scoring Spike’s first four movies. The love between them is deep and it’s real, so it’s evident that they will always gravitate back to one another no matter how strained their relationship gets.

A child seeing their parent move on, after seeing both of his parents together for so many years, is never an easy thing. Although Spike was a young man (19 years old) when his Mom passed away, it still had an affect on him. And the fact that his Dad married so soon and also married a woman who physically looked the total opposite of what his beloved mother looked like, was like Spike getting slapped over the head with a sack of nickels…twice. So Spike’s point of view was understandable. His disapproval of his Dad’s interracial marriage actually may not have been coming from a prejudiced place, it sounds like it was the dislike of him watching his Father turn away from the beauty of his mother, by turning toward the beauty of a woman of another race, soon after his Mom died, which could have been interpreted through the child’s eyes as his Dad rejecting his Mother altogether.

As you can see from these photos, everything is all good between Spike and his Pops now. Spike is now 57 and Bill is 87 years young. Their relationship is just another example of it never being too late to make amends and heal from past wounds. Hopefully their story can help someone out there who might be experiencing a strained relationship with a loved one- a child, a parent, a sister, a brother- life is too short not to at least try to to work things out.
