“I Almost Fainted”: Rolonda Watts Revealed Beautiful Thing Ex, AL B. Sure, Did For Her

Rolonda Watts and Al B. Sure

Let’s first confirm the long-standing rumor for those who didn’t know: YES, former daytime talk show host, Rolonda Watts, has confirmed that her man was Al. B. Sure back in the day! Rolonda (61) is 9 years older than Al B. (52), but that didn’t stop her from getting her cougar on when they were both at the height of their careers.

During their relationship, Al B. was a front-runner of the New Jack Swing sound and had tweens, teens and 20-somethings all kissing his Right On Magazine posters taped to their bedroom walls, good night EVERY night; while Rolonda was on national TV discussing serious topics with her mostly middle aged, middle class audience of working women and stay-at-home moms, about issues ranging from drug addiction to LGBTQ rights.

Al B. Sure

So yeah, on the surface they did NOT match, which is probably why they kept things on the low. But if folks really paid attention to what the New Jack Swing cat was saying in his songs, it’s easy to see how Al B., then 20 years old, pulled an almost 30 year old Rolonda Watts…dude had an old soul and was spittin’ some SERIOUS grown folks game on wax. Just listen to songs he wrote like “Ooh This Love” (1988), “Naturally Mine” (1988), “U&I” (1992) and any of the others.

Anyways, in recent years, Rolonda did an interview with AlwaysAList to promote her romance novel, “Destiny Lingers.” However, in doing so, she couldn’t help revealing something she’ll never forget Al B. Sure did for her during their relationship, and it shocked the hell outta her.

AlwaysAList:Speaking of past loves, you’ve been linked to some high-profile men over the years. Let’s talk about that. Did you really date my childhood idol Al B. Sure?

Rolonda: Yes, Al B. and I really dated and we still care deeply for each other—though we are not in love. My fondest memory was when Al B. asked a group of friends over dinner what each of our dream gifts would be. I said a sapphire blue and gold Rolex watch with diamonds marking the hours. Al B. later presented that very gift to me in a sound proof room in his studio next to a white baby grand piano. I almost fainted! I will never forget that moment as long as I live. He is a very special man to me.

Like we said, the brotha had game. I wonder if we’ll see these two hooking back up anytime soon.
It’ll be a shame to let that new couple name we just created for ’em go to waste- RoBSure has a nice ring to it. 😜

JAMES BROWN WANTED ROLONDA TO MARRY HIM…SORT OF

AAL: I can’t let you off the hook without asking you about the late, great “Godfather of Soul” James Brown. He came on “The Rolonda Show” and made his love for you known. But were you all actually ever a couple?

Rolonda: I adored James Brown and he adored me! We hung out a lot talking business, as he owned all of his music and was a tremendous entertainment producer and mentor to me. But we were never lovers. James asked me live on my talk show to marry him, but he did it more as a publicity stunt because he knew it was time for me to leave the talk biz and make my own mark in Hollywood. I also rode with him on the back of his motorcycle when he, Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi opened a big restaurant down south. It was either House of Blues or Hard Rock Cafe, I can’t remember.
