When most people think of celebrity weddings and relationships, they envision relatively easy-going relationships free of the difficulties normal people are faced with such as financial downfalls. But as it turns out, celebrity relationships are often more complex than most because of the finances, celebrity status, and other surprising issues most people would be able to find a median on. Although Tracey Edmonds’ marriage to Eddie Murphy seemed like a match made in heaven, unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The marriage was almost over before it even started.
Wedding Details:
After only two weeks of marriage, the couple’s French Polynesian wedding in Bora Bora was one most people could only dream of. But, even with the breathtaking destination wedding, the two were still set to have a ceremony on United States soil to legally seal the deal on the marriage. However, that day never came. The marriage was literally over before it started. The couple released a jaw-dropping statement about their decision to part ways.
“After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forgo having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further,” the statement reads. “While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship, and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.”
But was the statement nothing more than a form of damage control to conceal the truth? As expected, news outlets began digging for other reasons that may have led to the divorce shortly after the statement was released. There were reports about disputes over Tracey Edmonds changing her name. But Eddie’s longtime friend, Johnny Gill, shed light on a different reason for the split. According to SandraRose.com, Johnny revealed details about the alleged wedding disaster that occurred:
[Johnny] Gill was asked to comment on reports that Murphy’s mother Lillian got into a heated argument with Edmonds’ mom during the former couple’s “spiritual ceremony” near Bora Bora. Gill told Banks, “One of Tracey’s guests said some things that were inappropriate that triggered everything with the mom, and that’s how it all started.” via- Sandra Rose
Despite Johnny’s claim, Tracey Edmonds insists that wasn’t the case. In fact, she even contacted The Tom Joyner Show to refute the claims:
“I was very shocked and disappointed to hear of Johnny Gill’s false spin on the chain of events surrounding our wedding. His outrageous lies were clearly a very desperate and pathetic attempt to clean up his reputation at my expense. I would appreciate it if Mr. Gill would refrain from continuing to spread false gossip and lies to the public, and allow everyone involved to move on with their lies. We all know the real truth.”
Although Eddie and Tracey’s marriage didn’t last, the two have managed to move on with their lives and both have new love interests. Tracey Edmonds is now dating former NFL star Deion Sanders; and Eddie welcomed his tenth child, Max Murphy back in 2018 with his current partner, Paige Butcher.
It’s good that both Eddie and Tracey seemed to have dodged that apparent bullet.
