It’s official ILOSM fam.’ After the exhaustive work (and countless rejections) of Donald Trump’s Inaugural committee to add a lil’ soul to their musical lineup for his upcoming presidential inauguration, they’ve finally found not one, but TWO African American singers to sing and dance at the prestigious event.
We’ll start with the soul legend, Sam Moore (81), who is one of the biggest soul artists of the civil rights era and beyond. Sam is one half of the iconic group, Sam & Dave, which graced us with classic soul hits, including “Soul Man” and “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.”
According to reports, Sam was actually already set to attend the Trump inauguration to see Jennifer Holliday perform. But after Holliday backed out at the last minute, it left Trump’s committee scrambling yet again for a Black singer and lo and behold, Sam Moore and hie wife who is also his manager, Joyce (pictured below with Sam), pounced on the invite…
SAM MOORE’S PRE-CLAP BACK TO HIS NAYSAYERS
When releasing his statement on Tuesday, Moore went ahead and also did a pre-clap-back for the backlash he knew would come and here it is:
Via USAToday: “I am not going to let them, the left side, intimidate me from doing what I feel is the right thing to do for the country and that (presidential) seal,” [Sam] Moore said in a phone interview Tuesday.
SAM MOORE’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
“As an American, I am honored to perform for President-elect Donald Trump…I was a participant in the civil rights movement and have seen many positive changes and advancement in my 81 years of living in this wonderful Country, but I know we must all join hands and work together with our new President. I honestly believe that if we can accomplish this, the best is yet to come. We all as Americans need to unite behind our new President and give him a chance. He needs everyone’s support to make America greater, stronger and an even better Country.”
Afterwards, Sam received praise from Trump’s supporters and major backlash from non-supporters. Either way, y’all heard what the man said, he will not be “intimidated” by anyone, regardless of who approves or not. Translation: Sam Moore ain’t got no worries.
