Jaleel White Explains Recent ‘Family Matters’ Reunion, Reveals Why Reboot May Never Happen

Last week, the famed cast of Family Matters surprised fans when they reunited for a photo shoot. The cast turned quite a few heads because very little has changed about most of them. The only person who looks a bit different is Little Richie because he’s no longer a little boy. In fact, as we previously reported, he’s a grown man now with a recurring role on The Young and the Restless. Of course, fans were happy as hell to see everyone and many are asking one question: Is the photo shoot a hint toward the possibility of an upcoming reunion special or reboot? Well, Jaleel “Steve Urkel” White is setting the record straight about everything and there’s something he wants fans to know.

The Real Deal:

Although many Family Matters fans would probably love to see the group together on camera once again, Jaleel White has revealed that probably won’t be happening. Although there were rumors about the possibility of Netflix expressing the desire to develop a reboot like Fuller House, White has confirmed that no such reboot is in the works. During a recent social media post, he explained why.

“Reunions of any kind can be tricky affairs mainly due to scheduling. Several members of the #FamilyMatters cast no longer reside in the state of California and they traveled quite a ways to share this one special day. And special it was! Darius is a fool (lol) Bryton (Not So Little Richie) is more mature than all of us now, Shawn and Kellie, you still have jokes…?”

Nobody Got Paid?

Jaleel also revealed that the cast decided to do the photo shoot for one reason and one reason only – the fans. No one received compensation for the gathering.

“No one was paid for our @entertainmentweekly gathering. It was done for YOU, the fans & to satisfy our own need to come together as a family. And to set the record straight, no one from #Netflix has ever contacted any of us to express an interest in doing a reboot. No hard feelings at all, but that’s the God’s honest truth and life moves on with more blessings to come.”

But Never Forget:

White also went on to share another important reason why the reunion could never be complete. The actor took time to remember his Family Matters co-star, Michelle Thomas, who passed at the age of 29, just months after being diagnosed with cancer.

“But no reunion would be complete without me acknowledging our beloved Michelle Thomas ?? This little ray of sunshine gave me some of the best physical comedy moments I’ll ever play on screen. Michelle’s smile never failed to brighten your day and I will forever miss my bubbly Myra Monkhouse #RIP ?1968-1998 ?? I love you, Michelle #prayersup??”

For most fans, it was great to see the cast together again, but so far, it looks like Family Matters will only be a fond memory.
