‘I Kinda Forgot He Had Won An Oscar’…
According to Corinne, she felt like a parent watching her child in a recital while she experienced Jamie Foxx’s live performance. She said she was completely nervous the entire time. However, he continuously nailed each part, minus the section where he laughed.
And although Jamie executed the role of “George Jefferson” to the “T,” he says that he “bombed” the night prior. “Comedy is like a sliding shower door,” Foxx mentions during his interview. “If it’s ‘off’, you can still slide it. But it just sounds like [imitates grungy noise]. So the night before, I was sliding this ‘door’, and it was horrible.”
Jamie mentions it was so bad that people didn’t even get his first joke. One of his jokes was about a “blind girl.” Given the sensitive climate we’re in where everything offends people, he says the crowd’s reaction wasn’t humorous to say the least. Likewise, he said he thought for sure another joke was going to have people in tears while laughing. Yep, that also failed. By that point, Jamie was definitely sweating bullets.
All in all though, the actual live recording was a great performance, and Corinne appreciates her father’s devotion to his roles. Still, she doesn’t really mention watching any other episodes after the fact. Maybe Jamie’s was enough?
