By now, we all know Jamie Foxx has a knack for biopics because the brotha has an ability to imitate people like no other. He hit the nail on the head when he portrayed Ray Charles in the award-winning film Ray. Now, it looks like he’s heading back to the big screen with an interesting role in a new biopic that is bound to be epic.
It’s On:
According to The Sun, Jamie Foxx is slated to portray the one and only Mike Tyson in an upcoming biopic. In fact, Mike Tyson recently confirmed the Academy Award-winning actor snagged the leading role.
Apparently, the new biopic is already in the works. During a recent interview, Mike Tyson briefly spoke about the film. He revealed Jamie has the role, although filming has not begun. The Champ didn’t reveal many details about the film, but he does expect to face opposition for the film due to some aspects of his life.
“It’s on, as of right now. Jamie Foxx has signed on for it. Filming hasn’t started yet but it’s going to happen. A lot of people aren’t going to like the things I’ve done in my life.”
An insider has also shared a few details about the film, which will reportedly be directed by Martin Scorsese. Apparently, Jamie and Mike have been to the boxing ring together and the outcome was quite interesting. Jamie is reportedly training to prepare for the film:
“Jamie went to a couple of sessions with his trainer in the gym for this movie. He looked quite good throwing a few jabs and crosses against the pads. But when he tried a bit of sparring, he didn’t fare so well. He took a couple of hooks and walked out. He knows if he wants to play Iron Mike then he needs to improve that side of his game.”
The insider continued:
“Mike knows it is Jamie’s dream to play him and they have talked about gym work and how he could put him through his paces. The only thing is that if they go sparring and Mike connects, Jamie may never make any movie again.”
Jamie Gets It Done:
If anyone can pull off the role of Mike Tyson, it’s probably safe to say Jamie is the man for the job. His killer performance in Ray catapulted his acting career to new heights and he won a slew of awards for the impressive film. In 2004, Ray received more than 20 nominations for film awards and Jamie Fox won Academy Award for Best Actor, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role to name a few. Later that year, he also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Collateral. A release date for the Mike Tyson biopic has yet to be released but with Jamie in the forefront, we already know the film will most likely be a great success.
