New Edition legend, Johnny Gill, had quite a few things to get off of his chest in a prior interview with The Breakfast Club. In case y’all haven’t heard by now…Johnny may sing the hell outta some love songs, but don’t let his calm demeanor, shiny New Edition suits, and “My, My, My” riffs fool ya,’ — dude speaks his mind no matter what! It’s the only way he knows how to be, and we respect that about him. With that said, check out how he responded to his ex-girlfriend/singer, Stacy Lattisaw, and her brother below…
RECAP OF HOW THEIR BEEF STARTED
In case you missed our previous report, Stacy and her brother, Jerry, went off on social media after seeing Johnny Gill reveal, in The New Edition Story, that she broke up with him back in the day because her Mother didn’t approve of his dark skin:
Jerry Lattisaw (Stacy Lattisaw’s brother) wrote, “My mom don’t care bout what color Johnny Gill is!!! If it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t be in New Edition period!!!! She basically got him his first record deal….by the way, Stacy husband is brownskin too!!! How they gon put my motha out there like that! 😂😂😂 JG u still my brother tho!”
JOHNNY GILL THEN CLAPPED BACK AT LATTISAW FAM’
Johnny revealed quite a few interesting things that we didn’t know about himself and his N.E. brothers in his Power 105 interview, but first we’ll get to his response to Stacy Lattisaw and family. *scroll down for video*
When asked about the tension between he and the Lattisaw family, Johnny tried hard to keep it cool and cordial at first…and he was almost successful at it when he started off with this response to Stacy’s brother:
“Well let me say this young man…and I’mma try to be politically correct. […] If you’ve never had a movie done about your life, part of the process is they [the movie producers, etc.] sit down and talk to you about your life – your journeys, your truths, your ups, your downs, your good, your bad, and your uglies. […] She [Stacy Lattisaw] was a part of my career and getting me started, we dated. So that was my truth, my story, and nobody gets to govern me to tell me how to talk about my truth and my story. Whether you like it [or] whether you don’t, this had nothing to do with trying to make your Mother look bad, make Stacy look bad. We’re talking about MY journey.”
But then Johnny got ALL the way real:
“You don’t know everything that might have taken place. So I hear what you’re saying to protect and defend your Mom, but ya’ know…at the end of the day 29 million people know that your sister’s still here and alive. And at the end of the day, uh, I would suggest that you probably go somewhere, sit down and be happy. And take your 15 minutes, or 5 minutes with that window open and see what you can do. Maybe that can help your sister to get her life and her career back on track.”
Told y’all he doesn’t mince his words for anyone…not even his childhood sweetheart. There’s more…
We’re big fans of Stacy Lattisaw and Johnny Gill, here at ILOSM, so we hope they’ll bury the hatchet soon and give us a new 2017 version of their 80’s classic, “Perfect Combination.” Matter of fact, we’re sure Stacy has an interesting life story as well, so along with our new duet request, we’ll add a Stacy Lattisaw biopic to our wish list too. Okay I digressed for a minute, back to Johnny’s interview…
HE REVEALED A LOT MORE ABOUT PAST (AND POSSIBLY PRESENT) TENSION WITH N.E. GROUP MEMBERS
Johnny also revealed the REAL reason why he chose not to promote the New Edition biopic; why he and Michael Bivins were pissed off with each other up until very recently when they worked it out just a few years ago … after the biopic released; his take on having oral sex with his women, and he even went into detail about friction he had over money issues back in the day with the rest of the New Edition members. Check out everything else Johnny revealed in the interview below…
