Kirk Franklin Blasts Back At His Christian Haters Over Kanye Relationship

fb kirk and kanyeKirk Franklin is NOT playing with ’em! He has just blasted the many fans who were going at him about his association with the “sinner” Kanye West a.k.a. Kim Kardashian’s husband. Okay, so I know Kim K. has nothing to do with this story, but since Kanye always seems to include his wife in EVERY business move he makes-his music, his fashion, etc.- I guess it’s only fitting to name-drop her, for no apparent reason, in this article as well. Moving on…
kirk and kanye and 2chaninzAfter Kanye performed his new song, “Ultralight Beam,” on Saturday Night Live last night with Kirk Franklin, El Debarge, Chance the Rapper, The Dream, and Kelly Price (WATCH THE PERFORMANCE BELOW), the gospel legend let his gospel gangster side emerge! Kirk apparently got fed up with folks on social media dogging him and questioning his commitment to Christianity as a result of his recent work with Kanye West. Kanye has a new album coming out, which he refers to as a “gospel” album…with cursing *insert confused look here* and Kirk is featured on Kanye’s album. Although Kanye will be cussin’ up a storm on there, Kirk says Kanye is his friend and stands by his new project 100%. So here is how he put his fans in their places last night on Instagram…

Kanye is not me. I am not him. He is my brother I am proud to do life with. No sprints, but Marathons; like most of us are on. Before one song was released, I was crucified because my brother asked me to take a picture. Again “no Kanye, you’re not good enough”? No. That is a dangerous message I believe we send to the world when our posture is they have to meet certain requirements before they are worthy to kiss the ring. It says people are not redeemable, forgivable or candidates for grace. That my friend is religious. I will not turn my back on my brother. I will love him, prayerfully grow with him. However long he’ll have me, and however long the race takes. To a lot of my Christian family, I’m sorry he’s not good enough, Christian enough, or running at your pace…and as I read some of your comments, neither am I. That won’t stop me from running. Pray we win.

The consensus that gospel artists shouldn’t be fraternizing with “sinning” rappers and singers who sing secular music, just might be coming to an end and Kirk Franklin is at the forefront of that. What do you think ILOSM family? Is it hypocritical for Kirk Franklin- a faithful, devout Christian brotha- to be condoning the explicit lyrics/topics of an artists like Kanye West? Or do you think it’s time for a change within the gospel world?
