One month after Teena Marie’s goddaughter (whom Teena referred to as her “daughter”) blasted husband/rapper, Kurupt, for leaving after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Kurupt finally responds with explosive claims of his own. Her name is Javon Brown, but she mostly goes by her rap stage name, Gail Gotti. In June 2018, she filed for spousal support and slammed her husband, but now Kurupt is legally fighting back and he explained why below.
Her Prior Claims Against Husband, Kurupt
Court records were obtained by The Blast and many details were uncovered.
Via TB: [Jovan Brown] writes, “Our separation definitely hurt, as I could not understand how after 17 years” he abruptly “left me in my time of need when I needed his support and love the most.” Brown explains that “Before [Kurupt] left our relationship, I was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Although I earned a salary prior to separation and [he] knew I needed the money, when I asked [Kurupt] to assist me with my treatment, he responded “go get a regular job” and I should “get a boyfriend to help me pay for my treatments.”
In addition to those claims, Jovan claims that after her cancer diagnosis, Kurupt suddenly informed her ‘he had a new life with a new woman, and had to focus on providing for his new family.’

She also claims that when they first started dating years ago, Kurupt was the farthest thing from ballin’ outta control. In fact, Jovan Brown says by that time, checks were not rollin’ in from his rap career, resulting in him being broke, homeless, and living in homes that were rented in his mother’s name. She said it took them 2 years to finally get a car and get on their feet.
According to Kurupt’s wife, if it were not for her handling her biz’ for their company (reportedly a successful a marijuana product line called, Moonrock), the business would have been a sinking ship long ago. Why? Not sure, but it may be due to her other allegation, that Kurupt has a drug abuse problem that caused him to be verbally and mentally abusive.
Now that he’s reportedly left Javon, she’s revealed that she had to sell off all of her jewelry, including her wedding ring, just to pay living expenses. She’s now ‘seeking $14,000 per month in spousal support, $40,000 in attorney’s fees and a 50% stake of ownership in all the companies she claims to have managed for the rapper.’
Kurupt Says She’s Lying
On July 2, 2018, Kurupt responded in court docs, to blast his estranged wife for reportedly lying on him.
Claims they were already separated before her cancer diagnosis:
Via The Blast: The rapper says they did NOT separate in 2017 but rather have not been together since 2010 and have been living apart since then. He claims that Brown was in another relationship with a new man in 2012, which continued until at least 2015. She has publicly claimed to be in a romantic relationship with ex-NBA star Gary Payton. […] Kurupt says he “absolutely did not terminate Respondent upon learning of her diagnosis,” and says she was diagnosed several years after they split. He also claims he has loaned her money for medical expenses.
Says wife stole from him after he tried to help her:
Kurupt says he was already an established artist when he met Brown and denies she ever managed his career. He claims to have given her a job at his company to help her support herself and kids. The rapper says he had to let her go last year after he claims she was using his company account to pay her personal expenses, withdrew money without him knowing and even had his royalties diverted into her personal account, to the tune of $65k. He says she owes him around $175k. -via TB
Not sure whose side is accurate, but one thing is certain: SOMEBODY’S lying! That’ll be up to a judge to decide though.
Regardless of their drama, we wish Teena Marie’s goddaughter well as she fights her cancer battle. Stay strong Queen.
