Why LAPD Arrest Nipsey’s Friend 5 DAYS After Being Released From Prison
As the nationwide outpouring support was flowing toward Nipsey’s life and legacy, TMZ reported that the LAPD quietly arrested Kerry Lathan after he was released from the hospital in a wheelchair and staying at a halfway house on April 12th. Why? Because he was ‘associating with a gang member’ (as in the peace-seeking, stop-the-violence rallying Nipsey Hussle) while on parole. Nipsey was admittedly a reformed member of the Rolling 60’s Crips.
Now, here’s what’s ridiculous about this. Everybody and their Mommas know that just like Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle was NO LONGER a violent, gang bangin’ criminal. In fact, he was an activist, who was building up his community and helping others find a way outta the gang life as well.
The LAPD is VERY aware of those facts, because they even took the opportunity to publicize their so-called cooperation to work with Nipsey for that planned meeting he’d scheduled to unite the gangs in L.A. and end gun violence. Little did the world know at that time, was that the LAPD was quietly planning on arresting his homie, Lathan, as he lay up in a hospital bed healing from gun wounds.
WATCH Kerry Lathan speak, from prison, with DJ Vlad, as he awaits as authorities are currently trying to have his parole revoked:
We MUST revise the extremely biased laws (for only certain types of misdemeanors and felonies) that are clearly put in place to keep a large percentage of Black and Latino people incarcerated, even AFTER they have served their debt to society.
On the flip side, the elephant in the room- that Kerry Lathan once committed murder- does not not negate the fact murder is absolutely horrific, by any means. But in Kerry’s case, he did the 20 years that he was sentenced to and hopefully now, as a 56 year old man, he has true remorse for his crime and has transformed into a better human being as a result.
