tell them to ‘F’ off. I’m not being rude but I need to be on my own. I think when you’re younger you don’t feel like you’ve got the authority to say that to people.
“Everyone’s got a life and you’ve got to live it. I mean, if you work in an accountant’s office you don’t go to the pub at night and do people’s books, do you?”

Then in 2006 Lisa’s world was turned upside down when her mother passed away, causing her to hit an all time low and then attempting to remedy her pain with a baby, to no avail. Here’s what she said about that:

“Well, I think anyone does [hit a low point after their mother passes]. It’s your mother, isn’t it? You grew inside her. [After her mom died she] “desperately wanted a baby.” [She said that her mom’s passing] “made the ‘evil’ biological clock start ticking.”

In 2006, soon after the death of her mom, Lisa and her husband relocated to New York and started working on pregnancy treatments:

“We did about three rounds of IVF,” she reveals. “I mean, some women, they’ll do, like, 20 rounds of IVF. That would kill me. I just thought after the third one, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ It is the weirdest thing. You know – having to inject yourself in the stomach, you know, six times a day.
“And it always takes you about ten attempts because you know you are sticking it in your stomach. But, no. I am glad that I didn’t have a baby.”

She realized she was trying to have a baby to replace her loss:
[quote_box_center]
“Yeah…I think it was because of the death thing. With death you sort of want to create life, don’t you? It’s quite strange, really. But I’m so glad now that I couldn’t get pregnant. Because I don’t think I’m cut out to be a mom. I’m a singer. I’m a musician. I’m a writer. Maybe – I don’t know – I couldn’t give a child what it needed. Because I think there’s always sort of a reason, isn’t there?”

Lisa Stansfield, who grew up listening to soul music singers she idolized like Barry White and Motown artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and the Supremes, said she absolutely enjoyed taking a more than a decade long hiatus from the music game and that she enjoyed just laying back, kicking it, minus the make-up and high heels:
[quote_box_center]
“I find it the most boring thing to have to get your make-up on and choose your outfit and get all dressed up and look glamorous,” she says. “That is part of my life because it’s work, but when I’m not doing anything I just like to be a complete slob. We all do, don’t we?”
[/quote_box_center]
Although she did admits that music is a “massive part” of her life and it’s her true passion in life, when asked about how she could stay away from music for so long she said “I just needed a bloody rest. And it ended up being a very long rest!”
Lisa Stansfield stepped back onto the music scene last year (2014) with a new album and a new outlook on the music industry. She is now eager as she was when she first came out to make her mark in music: “We’ve started thinking about the next album…we need to get cracking because if I need to promote this album [across the U.S.] I won’t have any time for anything else.”
It sounds like she’s hungry again…let’s see if she can give us that same feeling she gave us with her ’89 classics. Check out her most recent video below…
