E.J.’s best friend, Lyric McHenry, was the 26 year old daughter of infamous director and film producer, Doug McHenry, who produced the iconic film, New Jack City and other classics, like A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and House Party. Sadly, 27 years later after New Jack City’s release, he and Lyric’s mother were left mourning Lyric’s August 2018 passing, and dealing with several harsh revelations that surfaced afterwards.
Lyric often appeared on E.J.’s E! network reality show, EJNYC, but preferred to work behind the scenes as a writer and video producer.
After celebrating her 26th birthday at a Manhattan party, Lyric ‘was found unconscious on [The Bronx’s Undercliff Avenue] overpass, knees scraped’ with a small vial of a what the police say seemed to be cocaine next to her. Equally as heartbreaking is that after her death, it was soon determined that Lyric was 20 weeks pregnant. Her loved ones believe that she didn’t yet know she was pregnant.
Lyric’s death was ruled ‘an accident due to overdose of cocaine, heroin & alcohol.’ Police recently arrested suspect, Alexis Mejia-Ramirez, 29, on charges of ‘concealment of a corpse and tampering with evidence for transporting and leaving McHenry’ on the overpass.
Wishing Lyric’s parents, family, E. J. and loved ones continued condolences.
