‘Now, Maybe He Didn’t Consider Me HIS Friend’…
“As my friend, when we came out and said what was going on,” Mo’Nique elaborates, “it wasn’t to put my friend down. It was to say, ‘This is what it is; this is what’s happening.”
According to Sidney Hicks, Mo’Nique has often referred to Harvey as her brother.
Similarly, she says she doesn’t want people celebrating Lee Daniels’ shows being canceled either. It’s not just about Steve or Lee. But rather, we have to think about all the lives those cancellations affect, how many families they disrupt — families of employees who depended on those checks.
“Some people, when they lose those jobs, their bills don’t get paid. Their situations and things that happen…because you’re used to making that money, and now it’s being taken away … and some of us are standing up and saying ‘Yaaay (applauding)’ … if we continue to do that, we’ll continue to be treated the way that we’re treated.”
And for people to cheer, it brings attention to other issues. The married couple also brings up an integral question during their podcast: “If you ran into ‘you’, would you get along with yourself?”
That’s a hell of a question, right? It’s something to think about in this day and age. Of course, Mo’Nique’s response to Steve Harvey and Lee Daniels isn’t exactly what people thought it’d be.
However, this also shows Mo’Nique’s sincerity and maturity in the matter.
