After Cuba and Omar Gooding’s beloved father/Main ingredient singer, Cuba Gooding Sr., passed away on April 20, 2017, it took a major toll on his four children- Omar, Cuba Jr., April, and Tommy- and his wife, Shirley, who all seemed to have great relationships with their soul singing loved one at the time of his passing.
Cuba Sr. suddenly died while sitting behind the wheel of his parked Jaguar in Woodland Hills, Ca., from what police reportedly suspect was a possible drug overdose. However, the autopsy is still pending on that.
Meanwhile, Omar has had to continue filming his new film, in Toronto Canada, where he was also on set when he’d learned the news of his Dad’s death. In the midst of fulfilling his contractual obligations and grieving, Cuba, along with Omar, have now taken to social media to pay homage to their father and his 72 years of life.
A few days ago Omar and Cuba took to Instagram to share photos and messages about their pops, to remind us of the cheerful guy, who had the ability to light up any room he stepped into with his big personality and infectious laugh.
Omar posted a recent photo of his dad holding his newborn grandson, Omar Gooding Jr. Omar and his wife had a baby boy on January 27, 2017 and his caption honoring his Pops read:
@omargooding: Rest in Paradise Pop. Thank you all for your well wishes and condolences. We ask that you continue to respect our privacy at this time. We will be finalizing service arrangements in both LA and NY by Monday and we will let everyone know then , where and when they can pay their respects. Thanks again for the Love. We are deeply saddened but remaining strong.

Cuba Jr. posted a throwback photo of his dad and his fellow Main Ingredient group members’ 1970’s album cover, along with a short message in memory of his beloved father, which read:
@cubagoodingjr: Eternal…

Although his online tribute was short, NYDailyNews also reported what Cuba Jr. recently said about growing up with his soul singing Dad:
[Cuba] recently spoke about his father during an episode of “Inside the Actors Studio,” where he recalled attending his father’s performances at Disneyland when he was between 7 and 9 years old. “He would pull me up on stage with him and make me finish the song because I’d seen him perform all the time in the household all the time,” he said. “It was a lot of feeling like, ‘I come from royalty.'”
The beautiful memories that Cuba Gooding Sr. helped create for many of us soul music lovers will be definitely eternal and we are truly grateful for that. Our continued condolences to the Gooding family, as we stand back and appreciate the legacy he left behind as well as the legacy his talented offspring will continue to lay in the world of entertainment going forward.
