Although she is an international superstar and classic voice of R&B, deep down LaBelle is still the same girl from Southwest Philadelphia. Matter of fact, if anyone has ever visited Philly they can tell by her down-to-earth, outspoken nature that she definitely represents for the city 100%. ABC News reports that Philly fans love Patti just as much as she loves them, and in appreciation, she’s being honored by having a street named after her:
A stretch of Broad Street will be renamed for the legendary soul singer during a ceremony Tuesday. The thoroughfare between Locust and Spruce Streets will be called “Patti LaBelle Way.”
LaBelle is slated to make remarks during the ceremony.
In the video clip below, she even went into detail about how deep her love for Philly runs, during an interview with Good Morning America last month. As they began their summer tour of US cities, GMA’s first stop was in Philly. Although it was cold and rainy, Patti brought the sunshine with her warm words and bright smile. She even expressed how happy she was to receive the honor at such a young age.
Congrats Miss Patti! If anyone is deserving of this honor, it is most definitely you Queen!
