In an emotional statement to TMZ, Mariah shared how heartbroken she is following the deaths of her mom, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey:

A cause of death has not yet been revealed for neither Patricia, nor Alison.

Mariah’s Rocky Relationships With Mom & Sister

As Mariah has made widely known in the past, she and her mother, Patricia, have had a rough relationship throughout the years. In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” she summed up their relationship as a “prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.”

However, Mariah still loved and respected her mother, which was evident in the homage she paid to her in that same memoir, by partly dedicating it to Patricia. At that time, Mariah wrote that she understood her mother had done the best that she could in parenting she and her siblings, and that she will always love her mother no matter what.

As for Mariah’s relationship with her sister, Alison, that was also rocky one– seemingly far more rocky than the relationship Mariah shared with their mother. As we’ve previously reported in 2016, Alison first publicized the tension she had with Mariah when she’d released a public video message claiming Mariah had not financially supported her enough throughout her health struggles. At that time, Alison confessed to her battles with drug addiction, prostitution, and she’d also revealed that she was battling HIV as well.

A few years later, Alison sued Mariah over her 2020 memoir, which accused Alison of past abuse towards her. In her memoir, Mariah claimed, Alison ‘gave her Valium, tried to pimp her out and threw a cup of boiling hot tea on her, causing third-degree burns’ when Mariah was reportedly 12 years old.

Although Mariah never publicly responded to Alison’s claims, that she didn’t help her enough financially…after the release of Mariah’s memoir, fans were more informed of why there seemed to be so much tension between the two.

It’s unclear where, exactly, the relationships stood between all three ladies at the end Alison’s and Patricia’s lives, but regardless of whether or not they were in a good space, the love that they had for each other was apparently still there.

Our hearts are aching for Mariah and her family at this time. May her mother, Patricia Carey; and sister, Alison Carey, rest in peace and power.
