Sad news to share today ILOSM family, one of our favorite actresses of yesteryear and today has passed away. “Golden Girls” icon, Betty White, has died at the age of 99…just a few weeks before she was to make her 100th orbit around the sun on January 17, 2021.
According to TMZ, law enforcement sources have confirmed that Ms. White died at her home on New Year’s Eve morning (12/31/21).
As most of you know, Betty White has been #goals for many, having carved out the longest-running career for any female actress in television. She’s starred in several shows and sitcoms over the past eight decades, and even up until her last days, she was a force to be reckoned with in the acting game.
We loved her as “Rose Nylund” in the infamous “The Golden Girls” sitcom — which aired from 1985 through 1992. However, what many may not have known about Betty is that back in the days of segregation era and blatant racial inequalities in media and beyond, she risked her entire career for her African-American co-host on her talk show. This fact was revealed by Betty during her Netflix documentary, “Betty White First Lady Of Television.” According to Betty, the network had received countless hate mail, demanding that Betty fire the only African-American co-host on her show. She refused to do so, and instead told the network that they’ll have to instead fire her, because she will never stoop so low as to please the ignorant racists of America.
Also noted within her documentary, is that her real-life personality is the total opposite of the somewhat ‘dense, sweet little old lady’ the world has come to know her for. In reality, Betty White was NO joke…she took no mess from anyone, and knew what she wanted out of life.
Betty has 115 acting credits under her belt, including projects like “Life with Elizabeth,” “Date with the Angels,” “The Love Boat,” “Mama’s Family,” “The Golden Palace,” “Ladies Man,” “That ’70s Show,” “Higglytown Heroes,” “Boston Legal,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Pound Puppies,” “Hot in Cleveland,” and many, many, many other shows and films.
Although Betty White was working up until recent years, after the pandemic hit in 2020, TMZ reports that she’d been super cautious about going out in public, and understandably so:
Via TMZ: Betty had been extra cautious during the pandemic, mostly chilling at home and passing the time by reading, watching TV and doing crossword puzzles.
As a pioneer in the Hollywood game, Betty White will forever be #goals for millions of people. Her work and her longevity will be a blueprint for those who come after her. Betty White…rest well queen, after a job well done.
