We came across this throwback commercial featuring Fred “ReRun” Berry’s daughter. Here at ILOSM, we weren’t all seeing eye-to-eye on what we thought of it…so we’re asking you to tell us your thoughts.
Rerun’s now-42-year-old daughter, Portia Berry-Allen aka ‘Lady Rerun’ is the splitting image of her pops. Some years ago, she starred in a TV commercial for a local auto insurance company, which has now resurfaced. In the commercial, Portia is dancing alongside other folks to a jingle.
Depending on how you look at it, following in her Pop’s footsteps can either be a good thing, or bad thing for Lady Rerun. Many would agree that it’s great that she’s trying to continue her Dad’s legacy in entertainment. On the other hand, some would say that she may unknowingly be getting exploited by some people who don’t have her –nor her father’s– best interests in mind.
Now, typically the aforementioned factors wouldn’t be up for consideration… but based on the fact that we live in a society where mainstream media doesn’t usually celebrate beautiful, full-figured women, like Lady Rerun (unless you’re Gabourey Sidibe’), it does possibly raise a few eyebrows.
If there was absolutely no intent to exploit Lady Rerun, then that local insurance company deserves a huge hand clap for being able to recognize a talented artist when they see one…but if not, shame on them. Either way, we wish Lady Rerun all the best with her career.
