After the constant backlash on social media, the beauty brand made the decision to pull the highlighter from shelves “until it can be renamed.” While many fans did not find anything wrong with the name due to Rihanna making it her mission to be inclusive to all women of all backgrounds, others continued to feel differently. Before pulling the product, fashion page ‘Trendmood1’ spoke out once more, “I think it’s really important that you all rethink this name, as there is a long oppressive history of geisha culture. The fetishization of it is something people need to move away from. Please reconsider.”
In a previous interview with Refinery29, Rihanna spoke about her brand being inclusive, “I wanted things that I love then I also wanted things that girls of all skin tones could fall in love with. That was really important for me.”
The product was pulled Wednesday, April 3 and will be re-announced once the beauty brand renames it.
