Royal Wedding Preacher & Choir Speak Out After Adding Flavor To The Royal Event

When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot on Saturday, pretty sure I wasn’t the only one who damn near fell outta my chair when I saw Bishop Michael Curry and the all-Black choir pop up on the TV screen. Prior to watching the royal wedding, I would have been more excited about watching “Coming To America” again, just so I could see “the King of Zamunda” marry “Lisa McDowell.” But after witnessing Meghan and Harry make history in several ways, my perception of the royal wedding has changed a little.

Bishop Curry caught many off guard, because he went against the typical stereotype of Catholic priests and instead preached with a bit of down south Baptist reverend mannerisms, to the delight of us all. As a record breaking 2 billion people watched the normally reserved Brits uncomfortably giggle in shock and amazement at Bishop Curry’s flavor-filled, socially laced sermon, many Americans were cheering the brotha on.

Then came the Britain based Kingdom Choir, who added even more soul to the typically bland royal wedding. When they belted out “Stand By Me,” following Bishop’s sermon, it was beautiful. But then when they sang “This Little Light Of Mine” as Meghan and Harry were exiting St. George’s Chapel, they REALLY put that extra stank on it!

Now, Bishop Michael Curry and Kingdom Choir director, Karen Gibson, are speaking out about their experiences. They also revealed some little know facts that surprised many.

On Tuesday morning, Bishop Curry chopped it up with the ladies of “The View” talk show. His interview was just as refreshing as his sermon. He that revealed his royal wedding sermon about love, slavery, Martin Luther King, and racial unity, was actually chosen by the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Prior to now, most people assumed those topics were Bishop Curry’s idea, but he said that it was obviously the newlyweds desire to make Meghan’s African American culture a prevalent part of the ceremony as well. See what else he had to say about how he was chosen by the Prince and Princess and more in the video above.

Kingdom Choir director, Karen Gibson, spoke with “Good Morning America” to spill a few little known secrets about their wedding experience as well. When asked how they chose their soulful songs for the wedding, Gibson revealed, “We never chose those songs, the couple chose songs.” Adding that, “You can kind of get an idea of what ‘Stand By Me’ is about. In that context, it’s about staying together, standing together, loving unconditionally, no matter what.” Check out what else Karen Gibson said below:

In addition to the all-Black choir and Black Bishop, Meghan and Harry also chose a Black cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason (19) and a Black chaplain, Rose Josephine Hudson-Wilkin, who is also Queen Elizabeth’s chaplain.

Overall, the wedding was beautiful and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry definitely got their point across: That it’s a new day in the royal world and if anyone plans one coming at them with that racist nonsense (as some fans have in the past), they will politely give them an unspoken middle finger.

They are unified and based on how they gazed at each other during the wedding, it’s very evident that they are simply “two young people in love,” just like Bishop stated at the royal service.
