In the words of Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?” Well, apparently not according to some of Tyler Perry’s angered fans. After news broke about his new TLC TV drama, “Tyler Perry’s Too Close For Home,” his fans gave him a collective “Aww HELL No!” over the show’s predominantly White cast.
Needless to say, Tyler Perry, known for speaking his mind, did just that when he clapped back at his naysayers during his Tom Joyner Morning Show interview:
“I’m so sick of folks asking me why I have a show full of White folks. What the hell?? Nobody asked Norman Lear why he wrote for black people all those years. People are people. I’m writing a story about a girl that comes from a trailer park and whose family has a lot of dysfunction. It’s all the same. That can happen whether you’re black or white.”
Perry continued:
“I got White folks on my other show Have And Have Nots” but nobody noticed. If Donald Trump can pitch to Black folks in an all White neighborhood, why can’t you watch this show on TLC!? What is going on in this country.”
Also Tyler had this to say to TMZ last night:
So maybe he’s earned himself this one opportunity to step outside of his box and try something new. That doesn’t mean he’s abandoning his core audience, it just means he’s expanding.
