Congratulations! Shonda Rhimes Gets Major Recognition

Shonda Rhimes is responsible for some of the more addicting shows on television. And, it seems her hard work has paid off in a serious vote of recognition.

Being called a prolific TV producer, Shonda Rhimes was chosen as an inductee into the Television Academy Hall of Fame on Thursday, October 12.

According to the source, the Television Academy Hall of Fame was founded in 1984. Actually, Vanity Fair mentions it as a “relatively new” institution.

However, Rhimes has nevertheless earned her spot among the greats early within her career.

ONE-THIRD

The source mentions that Rhimes is now the third black woman to join the total number of inductees.

Others include Oprah Winfrey as well as actress and singer Diahann Carroll. Vanity Fair notes that Oprah was the first, in 1993. Nearly a decade later, next up was Diahann in 2011.

According to the source, although Rhimes has received notification, the ceremony hasn’t taken place yet.

For now, it’s scheduled for November 15 at the Saban Media Center, located in North Hollywood, California.

In addition, Shonda won’t be the only inductee of the event. Vanity Fair reports as follows.

“Alongside Rhimes, six-time Emmy-winning writer and producer John Wells, comedy legend Joan Rivers, ten-time Emmy-winning art director and production designer Roy Christopher, and the original cast of Saturday Night Live—Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner—were all inducted Thursday.”

BRINGING ONSCREEN ‘EVOLUTION’

TV Academy chairman and C.E.O. Hayma Washington mentioned that all the inductees are “innovators” who have molded television and our culture.

We are honored to welcome the latest group of distinguished individuals and look forward to showcasing their impacts for future generations,” Washington states.

Likewise, Hall of Fame Selection Committee Chair Rick Rosen alludes their entry into the hall of fame via “substantial work” in TV’s evolution. According to Vanity Fair, he states as follows.

“It is a pleasure to honor a group whose contributions have had and will continue to have a powerful influence on our ever-exciting and evolving industry.”

And truly, it’s motivation to see Shonda Rhimes excel so quickly in her craft! She’s created some real winners, including:

  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • Scandal
  • and How to Get Away with Murder.

Again, this is a major congrats to her on this achievement and recognition.
