The beloved Prince has been gone for a little over a year and still we are learning more and more about what the icon each day. This time around we’ve learned tidbit of info about the file that the FBI had on him after he’d requested the authorities help in two separate matters.

The files that were recently released, cover an incident in 2005 and 1997. Long story short, somebody was trying to stick Prince for his paper and he was NOT going for that. Good for him!

Turns out the money hungry individual- seemingly someone Prince may have known personally- stooped so low to get money out of him, that they even brought the death of he and Mayte’s baby into the equation. Sad! The also made numerous telephone threats to Prince as well. The names of the extortionist and some key pages of the files were redacted for privacy purposes, but Jezebel.com transcribed a portion of it and provided the copies of the rest of the FBI  files below…

The 1997 FBI File:

███████ Prince Rogers Nelson (Prince) ████████████ Personal documents intended to sell those documents to the media in late 1996/ early 1997 ████████████ or those documents would be released to the media. ████████ and Prince are currently in court attempting to determine if ████████ can sell the documents. The death of Prince’s baby is also being investigated by authorities. On 3/28/97 AUSA ████████ was provided the facts and declined federal prosecution because the case does not meet federal prosecutive standards. ████████ advised that venue in this matter would not be Minnesota but NY.

The 2005 FBI File

Complaintant is the ████████ to rock star Prince Rogers Nelson. She advised that the office has received (on telephone number ████████ three threatening messages from telephone number ████████ The caller is a female who identifies herself as ████████████████ Caller makes threatening statements against Prince, threatening to make his life miserable, and threatening bodily harm. Caller also threatens to commit suicide.

████ was advised to maintain the voice mail messages.
████ has no further information on the suspect.

This was a sad reality that the extortion attempt was just another day in the life of an icon. As we all know, there are thirsty bloodsuckers everywhere and they’re throats tend to get more parched when dealing with icons like Prince, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and the list goes on.
