Melissa “Missy” Elliott is shining extra bright this year. Here’s another accolade to add to her extensive, decades-long resumé. The Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Missy Elliott has put in serious work since she drilled her way into the industry. Nothing was given to her. And always three steps ahead, Missy continues to be an innovator in the field. This was recently recognized by Berklee College of Music, upon acceptance of her honorary doctorate.
Now in another presentation, the Songwriters Hall of Fame welcomes Elliott as its 2019 selection. According to NBC 4, Queen Latifah inducted her after a grand introduction. But this wasn’t before former First Lady Michelle Obama gave lasting words regarding the musical artist.
Although she couldn’t be there, Lady Obama sent video of her congratulations, and it aired during the ceremony. Reportedly, she mentioned as follows:
“Missy, I want to thank you for all of your trailblazing ways. Thank you not for just sharing your gift with the world, but for being an advocate for so many people out there, especially young girls who are still figuring out how to make their voices heard.”
