The Reported Texts & Emails…
According to reports, one of the exchanges on February 1, 2019 show Tina Tchen (Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff), asking Foxx for info about Jussie’s case, because the family had “concerns” about the way the investigation was going down at that point:
“Hi Kim- …I wanted to give you a call on behalf of Jussie Smollett and family who I know. They have concerns about the investigation. I am on an 8 am flight to nyc but please call me before then. I land about 1015 Chicago time. … Many thanks!”
The report also says that State Attorney Kim Foxx replied back to Tchen that same day, letting her know that she was trying to get the case removed from her office and instead dump it off to the FBI, which apparently would have somehow worked out far better far Jussie:
“Spoke to Superintendent Johnson. I convinced him to Reach out to FBI to ask that hey take over the investigation. He is reaching out now and will get back to me shortly.”
[FYI: Superintendent Johnson obviously did not end up doing what Foxx asked, given Jussie’s prior 16-count indictment by a Chicago Grand Jury]
Tina Tchen (pictured above) reportedly replied to Foxx, letting her know someone (presumably an unnamed Smollett family member) will soon contact her:
“Thank you. I think [name retracted] is going to call you.”
After Tchen’s and Foxx’s reported exchange, an unnamed Smollett family member is also said to have contacted Foxx. The alleged family member rejoiced with an “OMG!” type text, presumably after Foxx updated he/she with some good news that occurred behind the scenes:
Via TMZ: The same day, an unnamed relative of Jussie’s texted Foxx herself, as well, and Foxx said she was working on getting the case sent over to the FBI. The relative replied, “Omg this would a huge victory.” Foxx then responded, “I make no guarantees, but I’m trying.”
According to TMZ, a few days later (on February 4, 2019) another text shows the unnamed Smollett family member asking Foxx if she had time to chat by phone presumably about the case, to which Foxx is said to have replied, “Yes.”
Days later, Foxx made an unexpected announcement, that she was officially recusing herself from the case.
After Jussie was suddenly cleared of all charges by Kim Foxx’s office, she requested that his court files be sealed and now they are.
Keep in mind that Chicago Superintendent Eddie Johnson previously revealed that the Chicago law enforcement officers had suspicions about Jussie’s story from the jump, due to several discrepancies and odd behaviors he displayed when they’d interviewed him. So very early on into the investigation, Jussie’s and/or his camp could have possibly realized investigators were not buying his story and that may have been what prompted Jussie’s associates to seek Foxx’s help.
As for now, Foxx has another problem- following her office’s decision to drop all charges against Jussie Smollett, just weeks after he was indicted by a Grand Jury, the Fraternal Order of Police in Chicago is asking the Dept. of Justice to officially investigate her.
We’ll keep y’all posted.
